2000 Mercedes c230 kompressor Question? Always turbo or at certain RPM?
Does the kompressor kick in at any time I hit the gas or is it at a certain RPM? Just curious, trying to learn more about my car, thanks!

All of the above are correct, Kompressor is not a turbo although it works quite the same principle as the turbo. I think what you're asking is whether Kompressor has kick in RPM like the turbo. The turbo actually compress air intake into the engine using the exhausted air discharged from the engine to propel the turbine that shares the axis with another fan to actually blow the air into the engine. Because of this principle, turbo will only works when the pressure from the exhausted gas reaches a certain amount or at some certain engine RPM. While sharing similar principle, kompressor however uses electronic power to compress air into the combustion chamber so the process doesn't have to wait for certain RPM to gain the momentum in generating compression power.
2000 C class will have loads of electronic equipments to determine when it's appropriate to start the process, and kompressor starts working from very low RPM than turbo and it has a broader range of work than the turbo. Yes, it kicks in as soon as you hit the gas.

turbos are always going at any rpm they just have 2 spool up. it doesnt take long and theres always some power. superchargers are the ones that kick in at a certian rpm
