For a project I need 5 people to answer the questions below. I already got one friend to do it, but no one else so i still need 4 people. It's very easy and you only need about a 2 sentence answer per question. Thank you in advance.
1. Do you believe that multilingual people would have a better academic achievement than monolingual people? Explain.
2. Do you believe that it is easier for people who are already multilingual to learn additional languages than it is for monolingual people? Explain.
3. Do you believe that there is a relationship between one’s understanding of language and their understanding of mathematics? Explain.
4. What do you believe is essential in the learning of a foreign language? Why?
5. Do you believe that the learning of a foreign language after the onset of puberty is similar to the learning of a language as a child? Explain.
Thank you to everyone so far for their well thought out answers

1. Do you believe that multilingual people would have a better academic achievement than monolingual people? Explain.
yes. the more you know, the better you learn. that goes for anything, including language.
2. Do you believe that it is easier for people who are already multilingual to learn additional languages than it is for monolingual people? Explain.
yes. i'm not up to date with the research, but as i understand it, learning a new language sets up different language structures in the brain which make it easier to learn additional languages. it sort of gives you the tools to do it more efficiently next time.
3. Do you believe that there is a relationship between one’s understanding of language and their understanding of mathematics? Explain.
language is a system, just like the systems we learn about in math. and it's a very complex system at that. there are many variables involved. so while i've never thought about it before, it makes perfect sense to me that that would be true.
4. What do you believe is essential in the learning of a foreign language? Why?
practice, practice, practice. exposure to the language. freedom to experiment and make mistakes without fear of dire consequences. the reasons these are essential would take too long to explain.
5. Do you believe that the learning of a foreign language after the onset of puberty is similar to the learning of a language as a child? Explain.
in many ways it's similar. in one way it's different. if you don't learn a language as a young child, you become literally unable to learn any language at all later. once you have learned one, you can learn another at any time. the process is much the same, though an adult can take a much more cognitive and less natural approach.

1. Career choices will definitely be more vast if you are multilingual. As for academic achievement, no. If we didn't have to take math or english or science we could also achieve a lot academically, but that doesn't mean that they aren't important in the long run.
2. Yes. First off, as somebody already stated, the more languages you know the more they overlap. Also, once you know two languages, you understand and have an easier time grasping the concept of different grammar. When I only spoke English and was learning Spanish, I had a terribly difficult time because I just couldn't understand why there were verb endings and gender specific adjective endings etc. Now that I am good at Spanish and am learning more languages, I take a language for what it is rather than comparing it to my native language.
3. Ehhh...in theory, yes. In practice, not so much. The relationship between mathematics and languages for me is the same as the relationship between mathematics and grammar or mathematics and geography. You have to memorize a lot. I guess there is more to it than that, actually. In math as well as language, you have to know when to apply the right formula. It is essentially a set of equations. Like...you conjugate this word this way when it ends with these two letters, etc. You have to know when to do what.
4. Conversation is essential, for me. I can sit in a classroom all day and look at a textbook while my teacher lectures, but it is not the same as being in a real life situation with a fellow student where you try to get your point across.
5. Not at all. When you learn a second language as a child, you learn it in much the same way as you learn your native language. It happens naturally. As you get older, you tend to over think everything. My Chinese friends, for example, learned English right after Chinese, and it was the same process. The parents pointed at something and the kid eventually caught on.

1. Do you believe that multilingual people would have a better academic achievement than monolingual people? Explain.
A: Yes i do because their are more chances for them. They can communicate with more people.
2. Do you believe that it is easier for people who are already multilingual to learn additional languages than it is for monolingual people? Explain.
A: Yes because a lot of languages overlap eachother. So once you learn two, then you learn a third. You may already be familiar with latin words or greek words because they appear in the other languages.
3. Do you believe that there is a relationship between one’s understanding of language and their understanding of mathematics? Explain.
A: Not at all. I dont see any similarities between those two.
4. What do you believe is essential in the learning of a foreign language? Why?
A: I think being around that language helps a lot. You get to hear the way the native speakers say the words.
5. Do you believe that the learning of a foreign language after the onset of puberty is similar to the learning of a language as a child? Explain.
A: Yes a lot. As a kid you leanr a language from listing to your parents, siblings. When you get older and begin to learn a language it is the same thing. You leanr by listing over and over again. Then eventually you attach it and remember it.

1. I don't believe it, it's been proven to me. I went to a french immersion school and the immersion students typically had better grades then the students who only took english.
2. It would depend on the language, if the languages they know are closely related then it would be easier for them to pick up. However if they aren't related I don't see how it would help them learn a new language faster.
3. No there is not. If you look at dyslexia you can have two types (well actually MULTIPLE types but I'll just describe two for these purposes.) One who is bad in language skills but excels in math and sciences, or reversed someone who is awful at math and science but great in language skills.
4. Being able to speak common phrases, ask for a washroom that kind of thing. But it would depend on why you were learning the language.
5. I've noticed that little kids are more WILLING to learn a new language because they don't have the 'I don't give a **** about anything' attitude yet.
