What can I do for my cat?

She just had a kitten yesterday and she is my baby and knows it. She doesn't want to be with the kitten unless I am with her. Is there anything I can do to remedy that. i am a stay at home mom, but there are times where I am gone and of course I have my duties in the home too.

Update:

She is 2 and I do think she is confused. I was told by someone she could be because she had only ONE kitten and most cats have more than one. No, I don't feel bad about someone telling me to get her spayed. As a matter of fact, I was going to until I found out she was pregnant.

So, your baby got babies. I am sorry but I have to say that it is so sad that she has to deal with kittens when clearly she is not ready (or should I say, shouldn't be ready). It appears that her maternal instinct is truly lacking. How old is she anyway.

If the kittens are not getting the care and attention from mom cat, they will not thrive. It is very important that they nurse and bond with mom cat. There really isn't a way to remedy the situation other than encouraging her to go take care of her kittens. Leave her in the box with her kittens. Try not to disturb mom cat and give her some time. Perhaps she is very confused by your presence. If she needs your reassurance, give it to her. On the other hand, if she wants you to be with her when she is caring for your kitten, then you have to do it. She is your baby, as you mentioned, so you just have to make time for that.

If all else fail and your cat still neglects the kittens, the most humane way to settle this is to either bottle feed the kitten yourself (meaning you take care of the kittens - which I am sure is not possible as you are busy around the house) or, give away the kittens to your local no kill shelter so they can be taken care of.

And maybe you don't like hearing this, get mom cat, your baby SPAYED.
