It's not so much as they wish everyone to believe as they do but they do not wish anyone to believe in God... PERIOD. Because if they do, then they are "on the hook" for their sins. They automatically become accountable for the wrongs they have done, and they don't want that! If they lend ANY credibility to the idea of theology that automatically invalidates their avoidance of it.
MARANATHA! Come, Lord Jesus, COME!

That's not necessarily true. Atheists, like Christians are individuals. Many just want to be left alone to live in peace, without overtly being preached to. I have personally never had an Atheist knock on my door delivering me pamphlets about the being no god. Nor have I heard people in the street corners preaching the way of no god. Or being told I would burn in hell. But I have in my lifetime come across this sort of thing from over zealous religious people.
A Christian certainly can strive for the hope of life after death. That is their right. Death can certainly be a scary prospect, and few except the mentally or terminally ill would relish it. On the other hand, for an Atheist, death indeed holds no hope, but neither does death hold the fear of damnation. Death just is another state that is passed through. An Atheist sees life as a tiny speck of sentience wedged between states of nonexistence except in the form of non-thinking matter. For me, as long as I strive to live a happy and hopefully charitable life, I'll be satisfied before I die. When I die I won't know death, so it won't pain me. It's what I do in the here and now, and how much I help during my time as a human that matters, rather than the prospect of an afterlife. For me, this is my only shot. The Earth is my heaven, so to speak. I hope to make it a little better for those around me, even if temporarily.

I don't think that atheists want us to believe as they do. They just think we're either stupid or ignorant. To be honest I can't have a "real" conversation about my life with an atheist. There are a few in my family and they can talk whatever they feel like. It can be crude, disgusting or putting Jesus/God down. Whatever it is they feel they have a right to do so. But, I am not welcome to speak of my day with the Lord. When they ask for advice from me knowing my belief system they should expect a Christian answer. Right? Well, I get this "oh, please don't waste your time with God." So, I don't give them the answer they need. And it's not even me saying "thus saith the Lord." I just tell them that according to how I believe which is according to Christian ethics this is what I would do in their situation. Not good enough of an answer for them. Can't win and don't even want to try anymore.
Thanks for the question and God Bless. :)
Edit: To the Iowan Atheist: there are no children in Hell.

Your question does not match the details you included.
Atheists will insist they wish to be left alone to do as they will, but spend inordinate amounts of time on this forum trying to convince us that we are wrong. Then have the nerve to continually ask why we want everyone to believe the same way we do ... lol, it's the pot calling the kettle black, dontcha think?
As to your details, if you became a Christian with only the hope of going to Heaven, then you have totally missed out on Jesus' message to us. My 'sister in Christ' advice is to go back and read the words in red, pretty much all of them relate to how get along in THIS world hon.

Are you kidding with this? Atheists don't want everyone to believe as they do - atheists want to be left the hell alone by religious morons who want everyone to believe as THEY do. I have never, in my life, run into a swarm of atheists outside a concert handing out tracts saying `Please Don't Believe In God' but I have, many many times, encountered Christians handing out disgusting and hateful tracts on a number of subjects. You say that, as a Christian, you `have hope of going to Heaven' when you die. Based on what? On the Bible? Have you actually read the whole Bible or are you basing your hope on what your minister and prayer group told you or what you read in the latest hand-out of tracts or what Chuck Swindoll related in his latest book? Is your hope based upon your `born again' experience and now you know Jesus as your personal savior and, therefore, `know' you're going to heaven? The so-called `born again' experience can be understood quite differently than Christians claim, believe me, and before you nestle all your eggs in the basket of the Bible please look into who wrote it, when it was written and what sources it draws on. I'm not an atheist, by the way. Christians who post questions like this -which make all Christians who are NOT so stupid look bad - just piss me off.
Please see books in sources section if you would like to understand your faith better.

I'm on neither side of this messy fence, but we could ask you the same question with the word "Christian." I couldn't tell you how many times some priest has been on campus damning me to hell because I'm agnostic and have generally liberal views.
If I were interested in religion, I'd study it. I don't need someone from across the state border telling me what his religion says and why I should believe it.

"but atheist give no hope after death."
Heaven was invented by priests to placate the FEARs of insecure, needy whiny peasants and very small lonely children.
I reckon if you can't get done what you want to get done in 70 or so years you're wasting time and or NOT trying.
Can you really imagine existing for trillions, trillions and trillions of years?
How could you possibly not get bored?
You people are scary.

Because since it is a free country, we are all entitled to our own opinions. Some people push them a bit more forcefully than others. The best thing to do in that type of situation is to smile and tell the person to have a nice day! Then leave!

I don't believe in a literal heaven. I believe that Heaven is our descendants way of honoring us, both through granting us paradise in their imaginations, and representing our continued influence on them. I also think of heaven as a utopia that we should all be working to build here on Earth.
