Personal experiences from the Hunter Valley and surrounds?
Just wondering if anyone has been and what they suggest. I am going next month with my husband and while there is heaps of options for what to do I would really appreciate some suggestions from real people on what to do. We don't have a whole lot of money but do need somewhere to stay and want to do a winery/gourmet tour while we are there. Any suggestions are welcome.

I haven't stayed in the Hunter Valley, so I can't comment on accommodation. But a friend and I took a day trip there two years ago (from Sydney). Absolutely loved it. We went to several wineries, as well as a chocolate factory and a cheese-maker/winery. We had lunch at the McWilliam's winery restaurant, and the food was brilliant. So I do recommend it as one "eatery". I think the chocolate factory was in Lovedale, and the cheese/winery we went to (I think) was in Pokolbin. I'm sure though, there is a "tourist guide" somewhere that will give you better directions.

I've never been there but the place is so beautiful (as I seen from pictures and commercials). Have fun.
