Do you think the economy is showing signs of recovery?

I'm near Omaha, Nebraska, so we haven't been as hard hit here as on the coasts. I don't even personally know anyone that's been laid off. It must really suck, though.

We haven't really cut back spending or anything, but then Hubby & i have always been frugal to the point of pain (in most people's eyes). We've never had a dishwasher or cable. We almost didn't buy convertor boxes for the 2 tvs...almost. I found a deal and bought each for $4 each, so I splurged.

We go to the library for DVDs. We do eat out but always w/ coupons or @ lunch which is always cheaper. Our 1999 Metro gets 40mpg. Hubby does all the maintenance on the Metro. It's a stick, so less to go wrong and better fuel mileage.

Hubby cooks almost exclusively from scratch. And he's a great cook...unfortunately. I've probably put on 40# over the 21 yrs we've been wed. We grow a little garden in the summer, just stuff like radishes, onions, cukes, peppers. Easy things to grow and take care of that we cook with a lot.

We usually only take trips to places where we stay w/ friends and family. They do, too, so it's a lot of fun. I'm looking into joining a house swapping club so we can venture off the shores of USA. We did take a trip last fall to Mexico and it was fun looking for the cheapest motels along the way. As long as the rooms are clean and no bugs, that's good enough for us. We're not into swimming pools, spas, or fancy decor. We usually just stopped @ a grocery store along the way and bought food as we became hungry. One night we did break down and order pizza hut delivery to the motel which was fun! Also, Hubby couldn't take it @ the end of the trip, we stopped @ a restaurant and he ordered a steak.
