Do I turn left or right to loosen a bolt?

Loosening A Bolt

IT ALL DEPENDS IF YOU ARE ON THE NORTHERN HEMISHERE OR SOUTHERN HEMISHERE OF THIS PLANET. Ya see, bolts are like toilet water....when you flush a toilet in the Northern Hemisphere, the water circulates clockwise before going down the drainpipe....in the Southern Hemisphere, the water circulates counter-clockwise before going down the drainpipe....see, that was easy, wasn't it ? here in the good ole USofA, you turn clockwise to untighten, and counter-clockwise to tighten....in Brazil, it is the opposite. If you ever find youself at one of the Poles (North or South), just reverse the order.

99% of the time its clockwise or righty to tighten

or counter-clockwise or left to loosen.

(exceptions- some gas fittings and some lugnuts)
