GM CEO Rick Wagoner to step down at White House request?

What right does the GOVERNMENT have to request the resignation of an employee in the private sector? I realize the government is providing loans to the auto industry. They did it before with Chrysler. But, it is still a business. This man has been with the company since he was 21 years old; he is now 56.

Maybe you're next?

Update 2:

My error: He started working for GM at age 23.

Update 3:

DJ and abc....making rules for the use of money is one thing. The government requiring the resignation of the employee of a private sector business is something entirely different.

Suppose the company for which you work was in trouble. The government offers loans but says "If you want the money, fire DJ and abc".

How would you feel about it, then?

Update 4:

I think few of you understand that the government has no right in private business. The government should have no say in who does and does not have or retain a job in the private sector.

Update 5:

Thank you, everyone, for your responses.

Good Question --- The answer is that the White House has " Zero " right however that has never stopped BHO from doing anything before.

The Obamessiah is proving that, as the Dictator that he is, BHO believes that he has some sort of birthright to dictate or impose his will on others...........therefore:

    A) By disregrading Wagoner's 33 years of experience at GM; BHO is once again bearing witness to the fact that he has zero appreciation or understanding of anyone else's experience or expertise because BHO himself has zero experience and expertise

    B) By removing Wagoner from office BHO is also once again silencing anyone who dares to question his policies or declarations

    C) Lastly; as you indicated, the most unconstitutional intervention that BHO has made is to remove the freedom to private industry by imposing the nationalization of private industry .

Once this is accomplished----- BHO has taken one step further in his quest for Socialism

Because he was obviously irresponsible with their money. He could either step down, or they won't get a cent of our tax dollars to clean up their mess.

I think these companies in the auto industry shouldn't be bailed out. But we can't just forget about it because some companies are a major backbone in the economy. But it IS their own finical error to continue to build, and build, and build a car right after another when they are not selling.

EDIT: The government has every right to be involved in the private sector if they are running to the Gov for bailout handouts, which is OUR TAX DOLLARS.

Since the govt has invested so much money into GM, the govt has all rights to change the company to make it perform as a positive business model. Obviously, GM management has only made GM fail as a business.

Seems so silly that foreign car makers such as Honda and Toyota can build cars on the same US soil, employ American workers, succeed, AND send a major portion of their profits back home.

GM and Chrysler need a major renovation.

certainly the GM board of directors could have approximately 3 years in the past. GM were dropping money for the previous 5 years, and had persevered responsible the Unions on a similar time as increasing plant life and production in Mexico (they opened the main modern one in 2006) the plant life interior the U. S. mandatory upgrading to be waiting to alter production to smaller autos while mandatory, even nonetheless it in no way happened. President Bush instructed GM in November that in the event that they did no longer have a achievable plan by March of 2009, then they might face financial disaster. the pinnacle of GM actually disregarded this, and went top decrease back to Washington without plan, and asked for extra money, because of the fact of this he get the smack down utilized. it is strictly what bush mentioned: The loans are designed to stabilize the two automakers by March, at which era they could instruct they are financially achievable. study the hyperlinks

He is smart. Obama is the fool.

By stepping out of the way he is allowing Obama the chance to fail. Which intelligent people know has already happened and it is why we are ignoring him and laughing at him. In 3 years Obama will be out of a job and Wagoner will have had a nice vacation and can do anything he wants. Obama is a figure head and an actor and is not even that good at it. What he did do for our country was to demonstrate that we are not racist, (there is only one race) and that is great. What is needed is more education, and an end to teacher's unions!

    Please se the Rothman/Lichter survey.

The Gov't has the right to spend our money the way it chooses? and fire people without asking?

We are comparing three failures here..

The failure of GM by allowing democrats into elected office the failure of unions to give thought to their childrens future and the failure of Barack Obama to get an education and a job. I feel sorry for those of you who voted for him, what you must be thinking now.

    Disgraceful.

He lost that right when he went to the government for the bailout money. Its really that simple. If you don't want to follow under someone's guidelines be responsible enough not to have to rely on them.

If this were say a company takeover with the exact same scenario we would all be making jokes about what a failure the CEO was and that he deserved what he got. But now that its the "big evil government" calling the shots its morally wrong and against the constitution.

because GM is using taxpayer and federal government money, its only fair that feds make rules for the company. if they don't like that, then they should file bankruptcy and they can keep wagoner or whoever they wish.

For private sector companies that seek bailout funds, government does HAVE a right to say and make rules. thats the way it is.

Government should stay out of private sector industries! Taxpayers shouldn't be partial owners in auto companies, insurance companies or banks!

The "Big 3" should have been left alone and file BK.
