New Aquarium????????

Okay, so I bought a brand new 10 gallon tank for my betta, Henry and I got is set up and running (I haven't put in Henry yet) and I am going to let it cycle for 24 hours. After, should I just put Henry in the tank or should I put him in a bag and put the bag in the water to help him get used to the temperature?

Update:

Oh okay, I will wait about two weeks before I let him in. Thanks!

You are confusing "cycling" with "aging". Cycling refers to the development of beneficial bacteria to deal with the biological filtration of the nitrogenous wastes. This takes 6-8 weeks and is better to do without fish in the tank because the build up of ammonia can be lifethreatening or lethal to your fish. Aging is just letting the water sit out so some of the chlorine can dissipate. You will still need to treat your water with a conditioner to remove the heavy metals.

However, since you already have Henry, you can do this with him, you just need to be careful about monitoring the toxin levels and doing water changes to keep them within safe limits. This will increase the time of completing the cycle to maybe an extra month or more. But Henry will be safe.

Hopefully you have a heater for your tank, because Bettas are tropical fish and do best in water 76-82 degrees. Do float your bagged up Henry for about 15 minutes so he can adjust to the new tank.

well the tank isnt gonna cycle for only 24 hours even if you add bio spira you still have to wait around 3-6 weeks so what i suggest put the betta in a little container for 1 month and change its water around once every 2 days and it should be fine. Then after it cycles let it go into the tank. but make sure the water parameters are the same and you wont need to float the bag in the tank if not then you need to do the drip method

you need to leave the water for at least a week with the filter on unless you want henry to DIE when its time to put henry in place the bag in the water for ten minutes then let some tank water in and leave for another ten minutes after this just rlease him into the tank and get rid of the water from the bag.

You should probably slowly acclimate him just as you would a new fish because the water parameters are bound to be different than his current tank. Any drastic change will stress a fish, and getting a new tank is very stressful for bettas as they are territorial and don't know if you just put them in someone else's territory.

you need to cycle it for way more than a day. it needs to cycle for about a week or 2. i would just pour the water from the old tank into the new one, and add some more water to fill it up. then i think you wouldn't need to cycle it.

I always put my fish in the tank right away cause it is usally the same temp. But if it was really cold or hot i wouldnt.

Back to your question. I would just put him in right now
