Will baracading a filter help prevent strong current?
I am getting a filter with my new aqaurium for my betta. Betta don't like strong currents, so would putting a few plants of something in front of the filter help make the current lighter?

Most filters can be adjusted so you can control the flow coming out.
If the 1 you has can't be adjusted, make 1 of these for your filter if the current is too strong. http://www.petfish.net/articles/Do-It-Yourself/cur...
Using large floating plants with longer roots is another option. I have water sprite that has grown so thick the filter can't push it around in the water, and the roots help lessen the current. The leaves are widely spaced enough the fish can still get to the top. Don't use anything that's small like duckweed, it gets pushed underwater by the outflow and gets caught in the intake making a real mess.

Plants might bend and sway with the current, and eventually snap, so get a strong, sturdy plant. You can place some foam in the filter output to slow down the flow of water. Many good filters have a water output adjuster, which means you can control the flow of water. If you are only keeping one Betta, you really only need a small filter. Small filters normally don't produce much of a current. Providing plants will create hiding spots, reduce stress, oxygenate your aquarium, etc.
Good Luck
