Does anyone know anarchy once existed intentionally?
Does anyone know anarchism existed intentionally and successfully for 3 years. From 1936-1939. in Catalonia, [Spain], Barcelona is the capitol of Catalonia. There are again seeking to separate. As far as Catalonians are concerned, Catalonia is not Spain.Lets here from some Catalonians on this one.
In the 30s was the Spanish Civil War. Fought by the Republicans (Fascists), Communists. Though all are diferent, the anarchists often considered themselves Libertarian Communists. And were the truest Communists that have ever existed. True communism being something the USSR, Cuba, Cjina, eastern Europe, N. Korea never achieved. Catalonia in this period was anarcho-syndicalists, anarcho-syndicalists believe in worker managed factories, shops, restaurants, etc. After the republicans retook Catalonian in 39 and the the factories retook by the original owned found them in better conditions. In this period, Catalonia had no form of money, operated on barter, and had schools. There were no police. Without money, there is no motivation for crime. These facts need to be known so people know anarchy is possible and desirable.

You forgot to consider the respect people at that time had for one another.
How many went to church and had moral values?
With the disrespect and cultivated hatred - Today anarchy would end up with drug gangs running our cities.

I know the history of the Spanish Civil War. I have read some about Catalonian anarchy though not as much as I'd like.
I think that emphasizing the successes in Catalonia are one good way of challenging the assumptions that people have for our forms of government. Though they did not handle everything as I would like [1], they managed to prosper after throwing out the traditional forms of government. The fact that workers seized the factories and other property may be reconciled with property rights - much property that is owned has become so through unjust means. In this way, a capitalist motivated by property rights may reconcile to a necessity of a "proletariat uprising". However, I would call for a restoration of *just* property rights rather than their abolition.
In general, I think that it is far past time that we fundamentally question the nature and role of government. If we are to do so, we should examine societies that did just that. While I would not like to repeat everything that the Catalonians did, there are many aspects of their culture that should be applauded.

It was the finest example so far of anarchism in practise. Production actually increased in some sectors. I have hope catalonia becomes independent and practises anarcho syndicalism once more- thats probly wishful thinking though. I think the facts of this revolution are not well known, I was never taught about it in school and was surprised to find out about it a few years ago.
Franco and the stalinists and all the states had to and wanted to stamp out this example of true communism before it spread and really gave power to the people!

Pockets of Anarchism exist today in South America. There has been some low level success, but nothing to write home about. Tribal living only works when you don't war with the tribe next door, just like other forms of government.

I don't think you quite get the point of crime. It isn't always about money and gain.
