i heard that in europe ppl have one washer/dryer that does both is that true?

It's true that a combi washer/dryer is sold in many European countries, although the seperate units are more popular.

I looked at buying it when I moved house recently, but it is more costly, does not spin as well, is less energy efficient, a shorter lifecycle and of course if it breaks down then you have lost an expensive unit as opposed to one of two units.

Also personally with a young family (and hence loads of washing) it means that you can only wash or dry one load at a time which is not always practical if you have a lot to do.

Most washing machines easily withstand having a condenser dryer on top, and we have a small boiler room so it is not a problem to put one on top of the other here.

My parent's in law and family of brother in law though, both have this combi washer/dryer as with a small bathroom space then it is useful for them.

So there are pro's and con's to both to be honest.

Yes,it is true. I have a whirlpool washer/dryer combo.

i never use the dryer because it is all electric and doesn't take but half a small load of clothes at a time and is too expensive.

I only use it when I am in a big hurry to use something.

I also live in America and love the washers and dryers there.

They hold much more clothes and seem to be more gentle with the clothes.

The ones I have seen here, yes I have seen them since the seventies, are smaller and cost more to operate. If you two machines and ones breaks, the other still works, big benefit. I have seen these in apartments and condos, and they are for sale easy to find if you want one.

Yes they do. The units are expensive, but they save a lot of space.
