Betta Breeding Tank Size?
If by chance, I ever want to breed Bettas, will a 5 gallon aquarium be alright for the male and female to mate in? I know I read that 10 gallons is best, but will a 5 gallon be sufficient?

A 5-10 gallon aquarium is fine for spawning. But keep in mind that there may be 100-500 eggs, and that many fry will need to be moved into a much larger grow-out tank.
You would also need two separate tanks (at least 2.5 gallons each) for the male and female.

You will need at least 4 main tanks: 10 gallon for The spawn to take place, and to raise the newborn fry 5 gallon for the male after he has hatched the eggs 5 gallon for the female before and after the spawn, TLC!!! 20 gallon grow-out tank for female babies, once its established they are female, get them in there as soon as possible Up to 100 small tanks, come times more of at least 2 gallons for grow-out tanks for males. Each tank must have a gentle sponge filter and a heater. As you can see, Betta breeding isn't easy, and you need heaps of Equipment, plus all those tanks and heaters, and mini heaters which are more expensive, this is a very costly hobby. Your Dad is wrong, you cant just have a 3 & 5 gallon tank. Where will you put the male & female after the spawn? (they have to be separate or the male will kill the female, from stress). Where will you put the female Fry? The males? Please get what you are supposed to have or just dont breed them!

It will be fine for them to spawn in, as long as you have some grow-out tanks for the babies to live in once their bigger.
Here is a really good site:

size is not all that important. a lot of pro breeders use those little containers that beanie babies come in. as long as the water is superb and you stay there the whole time to prevent death to any of them you should be fine.
