    Hi Green Eyes,

No that's not Crazy at all..I see your point on this..We have water and can use it when We want too..Plus plenty of clean drinking water..We don't have to take a bath in our drinking water, like the people in Africa..

We have more food that they would dream of and some of us really waste food all the time..They would be glad to just get our left-overs..

    Your Friend,

First of all, the planet we live on has A LOT of water. We don't destroy it. We change its form. So you are not wasting water. When you do the dishes you need hot water to get the dishes clean. Don't feel guilty about wanting clean dishes. It is much less wasteful than using paper plates.

Next, Africa is a big continent, with a large variety of people and lifestyles. Many people there live in primitive conditions--but you don't have to go to Africa to find those. You can find them in many places in the United States.

We can support programs that will bring better technology to underdeveloped regions of the world. That will help. The water exists--it needs to be redirected and cleaned up. Now go ahead and wash your dishes and don't feel guilty.

    You aren't hurting anyone.

Actually, it is crazy for thinking that if YOU save water or don't throw away food, the people of Africa will be better off.

There are many countries around the world that suffer from sub-standard living conditions - it's just a fact of life, but there is something that you can do to help.

I saw a similar show on TV recently, so I've made arrangements to sponsor an African child through UNICEF for about $1 a day.

I feel the same way, Green Eyes. I have so much--I mean really a lot--that I can't bear to think about starving Africans, etc. I lived in Mexico for a while, and conditions are just as bad there. I live in Santa Fe, NM now. One thing you might try is sponsoring a child through Christian Children's Fund. I sponsor two, costs $100/ a month for both. I have one child, Maria, 10, who must write me letters daily to keep me up on her activities, friends, family, and the like. She is very religious and very cute. I also bought her a computer through CCF, and now she hints at a printer, which I'll also buy her. The other one, Samantha, is much tougher looking, but I still have hopes of keeping her off the streets. This is not all the guilt I still feel, but it helps. I have never even met Maria, but I still feel she's a good friend of mine. She and her family could not be more thankful or gracious to me. No, your empathy could not be more virtuous. Keep it up. Jack
