Pheasants: Cage them on ground or elevated OK?

Pheasants need a lot more space per bird than chickens. Where chickens might only need 4-6 sq ft per bird pheasants need 25 sq ft per bird. Pheasants also like lots of cover. They need a pen full of tall grass (2-3ft.), corn or other plants that they can hide in. They get scared and freak out very easily. I've always seen people provide them with small covered boxes on the ground.

Give them the option for both. Pheasants to occasionally take to the trees from preditors. ALWAYS give a bird both options!
