What would you recommend for freeware 3d modeling?
I am planning on making a virtual map of our school. First, I would like to have the 3d models of the buildings and then do some programming for the best path to get different buildings.
1. What freeware will allow me to do the 3d models?
2. Is there a way that I can link those models to JAVA so that I can just do the programming part in there?
I heard about this software called Blender. Can I do some path determination programming in there?
Just need some direction, your help is very much appreciated.
I'll post my finished project on sourceforge if I get it done!

Yes Blender its pretty good although it has a pretty steep curve learning how to use it at first you can also write your own python scripts in there so you can use that. If you want to do it in Java blender has the ability to export the models in a few formats I believe so you can just do that and write the code to load the models in or use some kind of library to help you load them depending on what API you're using.

Blender is the best free 3D model program. It is incredibly scriptable and you probably should be able to the whole thing in Blender (I beleive the programming language is Python). You can then export the whole thing as a game (basically make it an exe) and put it on sourceforge. If the source files were included I might modify it for ouer school :D
