Is it true that Barack Obama is the only democratically elected ethnic-minority leader in the world?

I think I read this somewhere, but I'm finding it hard to confirm. Google isn't really helping.

Update:

OMG, lay off the political attacks!

What is WRONG with you people?

I'm simply trying to find out if this is a fact or not!

Update 2:

Also, I'm not asking if you care, or if you think it's important. I'm asking if it's TRUE.

Melting Media: Now we're getting somewhere! But according to the interpipez, Venezuela, Chile and Argentina all have mestizo majorities. Are their leaders considered "minorities" in their countries? (That is, if they even think that way. I've heard that race matters a lot less in Latin America?)

Let's see. The Prime Minister of Fiji was of Indian descent, but he was deposed by an army coup. Fujimori was president of Peru, but that was years ago. The PM of India is Manmohan Singh, who (as a Sikh) is a member of a religious minority. Nicolas Sarkozy is the President of France, but he's of Hungarian and Jewish descent, so that's a different ethnic group from the majority who are of course French. Nikola Špirić is the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and he's a minority Serb. A former Prime Minister of Jamaica, Edward Seaga, was of Lebanese and Scottish descent - definitely not the same as the majority!

Hugo Chavez is of at least three races: African, Aboriginal and European.

Cristina Fernandez-Kirchner of Argentina is European and so is President Michele Bachelet of Chile. I dare the above poster to go to Buenos Aires and call the average guy on the street 'gay'. Once you wake up from the coma, your cultural lesson will be complete.

Well not the only one in history.

Fujimori [Japanese ethnicity] was elected president of Peru in 1990. Peru is predominantly Mestizo, i.e. Caucasian/Indian mix. The government was unstable to begin with, and he was forced to resign under a cloud of accusations; I don't know how democratic the election was, but he was elected and managed to cut down on Maoist terrorism there.

Otherwise, I don't know whether he is the ONLY ethnic minority elected to head of state, but it certainly is rare.

Depends on how you view Syria. It is effectively a dictatorship. The President is a Shia/Alawite Muslim. But, the majority of people in his country are Sunnis.

i dont know and dont give a ****. i just wish a man like obama would have been inoffice the past 8 years , rather than the crminal we had to endure and watch tear our country apart and step all over our constitutional rights for the past 8 years.

It really doesnt matter if he is a minority or not, im tired of all the race labeling. But I don't trust him regardless of whether he is black or not.

I think it's sad that this election allowed color to have such an impact.

Shows that racism is still very alive and well.

Peru used to have a president who was of Japanese descent. But as of now, you could be right.

since that japanese guy got put in jail in ecuador i think so.

only in america is it important to prove democracy is alive by picking a person less likely to support your political interests just because he is different. only in the usa does the media have that kind of power. only in the usa is education that weak.
