I had a fault with my vehicle which is still there after payment.?
My van was stalling and requiring 10 + attempts to restart. The garage found the fault, Sludge from fuel tank and took tank off and cleaned out, replaced filter etc. The van ran ok for a few days then the problem itermitently began happening and today was as bad as ever again. What are my rights in this case. Thanks Scott

Thge job was not completed properly. Your service did only half the job. They should have cleaned out all the fuel lines from the tank to the filter, and from the filter to the engine. Your problem was the sludge in the fuel lines. Stop payment on the repair, go to the BBB in your area, and the DMV, and file a complaint on the service center. If this was a national concern, they will fix that car in a moment, BUT if this a local garage, go to DMV, and BBB.

Simply return to the garage and tell them you have paid for a repair that has not been done as the fault still exists . As the garage cannot prove that any sludge was removed from the tank (it has long since been disposed of even if they did) they may feel obligated to take another look .
I wouldn't mention money just let them fix it and then if they ask for payment just say i already paid you .
PS if there was sludge in your tank adding an in line filter is a wise and cheap option but cleaning the tank or adding a filter is pointless if the dirt has already blocked up your carbs .
Clean the carbs first !

You have to take it back to the garage and tell them the problem is still there.
Give them a chance to put it right, unfortunately there maybe another problem with the van. If there was sludge and crap in the tank and if it was a diesel it may have got as far as the fuel pump.

You need to take it back and tell them the problem has started again.
Unfortunately they could of found a problem with the van it may be the case where they now find another problem. This is what happens with vehicles, sometimes you have to try one thing to see if it works.

Go back to the garage and explain to them that this was not the problem.
It depends on what they said to you, i think almost certainly if you've already paid they have to look at it again F.O.C
Most garages should do this, but some can be awkward.
Did they tell you it would definitely solve the case?
Theoretically any repair you have done should last at least 12 months according to the recent trading standards report.

Take it back to the shop that worked on it the first time and explain to them what has been happening and the original problem continues to occur.
