Are we forgetting the real reason for christmas?

Are we rejecting nthe real reason for christmas?

Are we losing sight of the sheer over-indulgence of the season, the hedonism and the commercialism of christmas, and is the real reason being overtaken by religeon?

The crucifixion was 2000 years ago. Is it not time that we moved on?

First, Christmas is not about the "crucifixion" 2000 years ago. It is the time set aside where Christians celebrate the BIRTH of Jesus Christ.

He was not born on December 25th, but since we don't know when exactly He was born, we simply take that day to honor His birth.

No it's not time to move on. Just as people remember my birthday every year, and people remember yours, and probably will until we die, why should we simply stop remembering Jesus' birth?

I do agree that it has become way to commercialized, and is characteristic of over-indulgence, but these things are not done by most Christians, these things are mosty done by others who simply participate in the day, but really are not celebrating Jesus' Birth.

Jesus was not born on Christmas. Its a pagan celebration. I do agree with your view on that if we call it the birth of Christ, then why do we worry about such what someone will buy or have. Before the recession period people spent billions on Christmas, when we could send the money to the those in need.If you want to celebrate a holiday based on what people call it the birth of Christ then, you might as well do what Christ desired to help save souls and help the poor.I do not even celebrate this holiday,I rather give the money to people in need locally so I know it helps versus some charities only profiting and not helping.

We easily don't have exciting the delivery of Christ on his birthday. some bible historians have found out he could have been born around the spring time. The early church used the twenty 5th to Christianize the pagan competition of lights that was held on the same day. Seeing as Jesus was the 'soft ' born into the international to loose us from sin, it variety of feels to be setting up. certainly you will come across it the way you pick to have. besides, that's the only time of the 12 months that individuals make it an element to be solid to one yet another and to help the fewer fortunate.

Have you seen that documentary on the History Channel about the history of Christmas?

It's really interesting. You should watch it.

It tells all about how Christmas used to just be a giant carnival party in Europe. People got drunk, and took their tops off, simmilar to mardi gras.

But then the Reformation happened, and in England, Christmas was outlawed by the Protestants. Shops were not allowed to be closed on Christmas day, and in the Protestant churches they didn't even have a special service for Jesus's birthday.

Finally the people got annoyed about not being allowed to party on Christmas, and it was part of the reason they got rid of Oliver Cromwell, and brought the King back.

Since early American Colonists were all religious nuts, they also opressed Christmas festivities, and Americans didn't even celebrate until sometime in the 1800's.

I agree with you, Christmas was never really about Jesus's birthday. It was always just an excuse to throw a big party. Religion shouldn't be a part of it at all.

We don't all feel as you do or are in lock step at this time of year.

    4. MEANING OF THE DEATH ON THE CROSS

Although Jesus did not die this death on the cross to atone for the racial guilt of mortal man nor to provide some sort of effective approach to an otherwise offended and unforgiving God; even though the Son of Man did not offer himself as a sacrifice to appease the wrath of God and to open the way for sinful man to obtain salvation; notwithstanding that these ideas of atonement and propitiation are erroneous, nonetheless, there are significances attached to this death of Jesus on the cross which should not be overlooked. It is a fact that Urantia has become known among other neighboring inhabited planets as the "World of the Cross."

We are not celebrating His Crucifixion - we're celebrating Jesus birth...

''Today in the city of David a SAVIOR has been born to you; He is CHRIST the LORD.

This will be a sign to you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger''...suddenly a great company of heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, ''Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom Hid favour rests''

Our SAVIOUR'S birth will be celebrated until He comes back...

May His love touch your heart this CHRISTMAS ; )

I won't dignify that remark with a knee-jerk answer...apart from pointing out that the sad, faithless atheists have been trying to , and failed for over 2000 years.

Rest assured, the true meaning is remembered by the people who still care about the Unconquerable Sun.

The real reason for the Christmas holiday was the Roman church's attempt to coerce pagans into Christianity.

The Winter Solstice? Togetherness, community? Cheer? Song? Lights and festivities?

Yeah maybe, it seems all plastic nativity scenes made in China by slave labour these days. And credit card purchases of 50 inch TVs that heat south Florida homes to boiling point so they can watch Die Hard XV (Die So Mofo Hard!) in High Def.

Nor forgetting the plastic reindeer, plastic lights, plastic candles, plastic santa, plastic trees and plastic smiles.
