What are they doing with the Junction 27 roundabout on the M62?!?

Now I may be imagining this but the last few times I've passed there, I've noticed that they've put a footpath all the way around the actual centre of the roundabout. There must be at least two motorway exits leading onto that roundabout and various roads leading on and off. Who is going to be daft enough to try and cross it?

Does anyone know what is happening there and if they are actually planning to make the roundabout safer by installing traffic lights? I believe this may have been in the plans at one point.

Yep, the are going to be installing traffic lights, reducing the speed limit to 30mph (unless they've already done that?) and yep, they're building a cycle path + footpath. Oh and they are also resurfacing the roads & repainting the road markings.

Hi there, Good question.

Every time I go round this roundabout, two to three times a day, it seems to change, you never know where your going. It is all done in the name of progress. Junction 27 is one of the busiest on the motorway network, linking the M62 to the M621, the A62, A58, and A650.

There have been many accidents in the past few years, including fatalities in the area, and this work is expected to improve traffic flow, and reduce accidents. 

The increased traffic flow from Leeds and Bradford to the new shopping complex in the area on the A62 has caused many problems.

I think this will, in the end, improve safety for both pedestrians and motorists using this junction and roundabout.
