My husky is going blind and needs cataract surgery but we can't afford it. Does anyone have any suggestions?
My dog just turned one year old and we found out that he has juvenile / hereditary cataracts. The surgery would cost over $3000 and we can't afford that right now. I have researched care credit as an option, but does anyone have any other suggestions? For a way to get the surgery done for a lower cost, or even for ways of raising money?
And please...no one comment about how we shouldn't own a dog if we can't afford it. When we bought him we were doing fine financially. And we are still doing ok, we just don't have $3000 to drop right now.
thanks..
Here are pictures if you want to see him! He has his own myspace that I made for him.

And more specifics for those who were wondering..he is already blind in his left eye and will be blind in the right eye in a few months.
Thanks for all your help everyone! keep the suggestions coming :) I'm not giving up on my pup, we're going to get him this surgery one way or another!

There are some organizations such as IMOM, that raises money through donations, for surgeries, etc. They may not be taking new applications though, but they may be able to direct you to other organizations & resources:
You can also try contacting veterinary colleges in your area, to see if any can offer surgery at a reduced rate:

Best of luck.

Does your puppies have an ACL harm? Is he below 30 pounds? In case you answered yes, then surgical procedure isn't continually required. It has been observed that dogs with a torn ACL which can be beneath 30 kilos which have the knee surgery finally come to be having to have the opposite knee performed, and can become with arthritis within the knee. Dogs that have a torn ACL, which are beneath 30 kilos, that do not need the surgery will heal with very restricted recreation for 4 to 8 weeks, and can finally grow to be with arthritis within the knee. If you happen to canine is under 30 pounds and has a torn ACL and you decide to not do the surgery, you'll have got to get a canine cage/carrier and use it. Hold your canine confined if you find yourself no longer equipped to carefully supervise and on restrained pastime (no jumping, going for walks, going throughout slick flooring he can slip on), leash stroll only. Don't allow him to jump up to greet you, don't enable him to jump on furniture, or go up and down steps... Again quick leash walks to do his business handiest. When you do this in general inside 6 to 8 weeks the knee will tighten up again and now not require any surgical procedure. For the duration of this period you may ask your vet about suffering meds, however these should not without facet results. The essential thing to do is cage leisure.

Does your puppies have an ACL damage? Is he below 30 kilos? If you spoke back sure, then surgical procedure isn't regularly required. It has been discovered that puppies with a torn ACL which are below 30 kilos that experience the knee surgical procedure finally become having to have the opposite knee performed, and can become with arthritis within the knee. Dogs that experience a torn ACL, which are below 30 kilos, that do NOT have the surgical procedure will heal with very restrained pastime for four to eight weeks, and can finally become with arthritis within the knee. If you puppy is below 30 kilos and has a torn ACL and you decide not to do the surgical procedure, you'll must get a puppy cage/provider and use it. Keep your puppy limited whilst you can't intently supervise and on restrained pastime (no leaping, strolling, going throughout slick flooring he can slip on), leash stroll most effective. Do now not enable him to leap as much as greet you, don't enable him to leap on furnishings, or cross up and down steps... once more SHORT leash walks to do his trade most effective. If you do that USUALLY inside 6 to eight weeks the knee will tighten up once more and now not require any surgical procedure. During this interval you can also ask your vet approximately discomfort meds, however the ones aren't with out aspect results. The primary factor to do is cage relaxation.

Consider the possibility of not doing the surgery. Many, many dogs lose sight in one eye due to injury or disease and you'd never know it. Dogs do quite fine seeing with only one eye.
Even if this is her second eye to go bad, unless the Vet feels the surgery needs to be done for her overall health, maybe you can wait and see how she does with the loss of sight. You can help her to not bump into things at home by "scenting" upright surfaces that tend to move around. Choose a cheap perfume, dilute it to 1 part in 10 parts of water, and spritz it on chair legs, doors, flower pots, the legs of a rolling bird cage, etc...
Also consider the age of the dog before you do surgery. If she is very young, perhaps it's more important to you (on an emotional level) to preserve her eyesight. If she is old, though, maybe you don't want to make her go through the process of surgery.
Good luck.

If your vet is a good vet, he/she will help you financially. My dog had to get a $5k surgery, and we told the vet we couldn't afford that right now and she let us do monthly payments till we paid it off. Tell your vet you love your dog and ask how flexible he/she can be with payment. If they won't help you, then they are putting the vlue of money over your dog's health and aren't worth your time. Real vets care about the pet's health before money.

You can do one eye at a time at a reduced cost initially. Some money raising ideas include holding a raffle, garage sales, selling of items on Ebay or Craigslist. These won't cover the entire cost, but may offset some of the expense and allowing you to come closer to the financial goal.

you shoulda put a picture, people would've felt more sympathetic lol, no.
if you have kids, have them go around with signs and ask for money to help get their dog surgery or he's going to have to be put down:[
something rly sad, not that it isn't sad in General.
im sorry
