i have been studying this topic on my uni course :)
with newer MultiMedia platforms such as the internet, people of the dot com generation are moving to the internet to achieve fast, more assessable Information esign uniquely to their interests. yet however, magazines offer escapism, something to do; if im waiting for train im more likely to buy a magazine rather than wip out my iphone (like i could afford one anyway) because i want to physically read something.
its so hard to read long journalism (long worded articles) online as it strains your eyes and its hard to concentrate.
magazines such as vogue, marie claire etc are long standing brands that people buy into, they purposely buy vogue because its vogue. i like to keep all my magazines (even though they do take up so uch room!) to refer back to, they are tangible unlike the many fashion blogs and websites out there.
due to the economical crisis there has been lower sales of the 'cheaper' weekly magazines as consumers are saving their money and investing in the more glossy, monthly magazines as a 'treat' so even in times of low disposable income we still turn to magazines.
so after this really long and probably painful answer lol i reckon that in 10 years down the line you and i and the newer generations will still continue to buy magazines :)
well i hope so because im studying magazine publishing and that's a whole lotta money wasted!

I can say I almost never buy magazines anymore. I used to buy mags all the time, but nowadays I'm like, "$3.75??? I can get my fashion/celebrity gossip/technology news/gaget reviews/recipes/home decorating tips online for free thanks."
Books, I definately still buy.
