Bible Survey #2 (for Christians only)?

"But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.

007: And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

008: And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.

009: And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

010: And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads.

011: The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold;

012: And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone.

013: And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia.

014: And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goeth toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates.

015: And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

016: And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:

017: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

018: And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.

019: And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.

020: And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.

021: And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;

022: And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.

023: And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.

024: Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

025: And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed." (Gen 2:6-25)

Question: Could this be the proof that even if God told someone what it was like in the past, that person will have the details all jumbled?

What about the 4 rivers that used to be there?

World geography was severely altered after the flood. Genesis was written in retrospect by Moses. Probably about 1440 BC. God Bless

    1) Could this be the proof that even if God told someone what it was like in the past, that person will have the details all jumbled?

Well, certainly not. What, here, appears to be "jumbled" to you? And why?

    2) What about the 4 rivers that used to be there?

As one answer said, two are confidently identified. This allows us to locate Eden, as the headwaters of both of these rivers remain (in somewhat close proximity) in Eastern Turkey.

Ethiopia is likely a mistranslation - rare, but in this case likely. The more literal translation is "Kush" or "Cush", and we know (from Scripture) that a land known as Kush bordered Midian. Midian has definitely been located in Asia (near to Egypt). If we accept this - that it was the near-Midian Kush mentioned here and not Ethiopia - then the Gihon might simply be an older, or alternate, name of the Jordon. Currently the Jordan is sourced at Mount Hermon (Syria), which is a considerable distance from the sources of the Tigris and Euphrates - but could still reasonably be conjectured to be within the territory of the region formerly known as Eden.

Note Cush's nearness to Havilah here

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biblical_Cush

Now, the river Pison travels to Havilah.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Havilah

We see great confirmation with the previous conjecture: Havilah is clearly in Asia, not Africa, and so (most likely) is the Cush mentioned here.

The source of conjectured Pison (flowing by the conjectured location of Havilah) is something I was not able to locate, though the HarperCollins Bible Dictionary suggests that the Pishon might refer to the Persian Gulf or some similar body of water - not necessarily a river.

So, 2 for 4 definite, 1 seems to me very likely, the fourth is very conjectural - but, then, we all know that rivers change their course or even dry up over centuries of time. We could equally conjecture that the two uncertain rivers simply do not exist any more, or have changed course so significantly that they can no longer be identified (no longer reaching the locations mentioned in Scripture, or joining with the larger rivers though previously flowing to a separate destination).

The garden of eden is a geographic territory in the Middle east, & God NEVER cast mankind out of those boundaries, He just lifted his glory away from mankind. Now if you go to Rev. 22:1-3 you see a Pure river of water of life proceeding out of the throne of God. The religious world today can not tell you want those 2 trees was in that was in the midst of the garden of eden, They were not literal trees, because ALL trees were good for food, But these 2 trees were 2 laws of reproduction.

    First question - yes

2 of the rivers, the Tigris and Euphrates are still there. The other two may now be underground rivers that once flowed above ground down into Africa.

How do you see it as jumbled?

There are guesses where the garden of Eden was at but no one really knows.

Rivers change courses or dry up.

    Why Christians only? ];P

Do you think Muslims worldwide don't read the Bible to find God? Muslims do too you know. Perhaps even more comprehensive then most Christians out there. Believe it or not. };)

"'Could this be the proof that even if God told someone what it was like in the past, that person will have the details all jumbled?"

It could be or it could be a bunch of junk made up by some crazy nomadic people 4,000 years ago. The latter of the two is more likely.
