Can anyone identify this movie?

I remember seeing a movie about 30 years ago on TV.

The basic plot outline that I can remember is there was a plane crash in the desert; a group of US people thought they had landed but as the movie progressed it became apparent that they had died. As rescue teams found their bodies, each 'survivor' disappeared.

This was a black and white movie and I would guess that it was from the mid to late 50's, possibly early 60's.

Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated!

Regards,

LZ

The film is in color, but the "Twilight Zone" episode is b&w.

    Sole Survivor (1970 TV movie)

starring Richard Basehart, William Shatner, Vince Edwards, Lou Antonio, Lawrence P. Casey, Brad David, Patrick Wayne, Alan Caillou

    IMDb review:

The story focuses on an investigation of a downed plane in the desert, which is thought to be a plane from World War II that was not supposed to be over land when it crashed. When the plane went down, it was supposed to be over the ocean, and only one crew member escaped from that accident--a man who is now a general and is on that identifying mission to determine if it was his former assignment. The thrust of the film centers on the former plane crew members, now seen as ghosts who hang around the wreck, wondering when they will be discovered and their bodies found. After so many years, they have become cynical and discouraged. It is only when the team arrives to survey the wreck and the surroundings that they gain some hope that the truth will be discovered and that they will not have to stay with the plane for eternity. When they find their former teammate part of the investigation team and now a general, they feel that they have been let down and that the lies told will threaten their hopes of getting out of this desert hell. ... As their remains are discovered, each of the airmen finally moves on. When the positions relative to the aircraft are revealed, the extent of their bravery is, too. The general realizes what an injustice he is perpetuating on his comrades-in-arms, and he slowly comes to terms with his own concsience.

    TRIVIA:

This story is loosely based on the discovery of the B-24 Liberator bomber the "Lady Be Good" that was found in the Libyan Desert after the crew got lost on their first bombing mission to Italy.

This also was adapted as a "Twilight Zone" episode titled "King 9 Will Not Return" starring Robert Cummings, which aired September 30, 1960.
