India’s Chandrayaan-1 successfully reached its final operational orbit around the Moon. Who else is impressed?

How hard is it to time the orbital insertion from Earth to the moon with a rocket 1/10th the size of a Saturn V?

Update:

As I recall, Saturn V was like almost 4000 tons and this tiny rocket was less than 400 tons. Amazing!

Count me in... It must have been pretty hard to put that small babe into orbit, but the Indians did it.

  • I'm fairly impressed. It's good to know other space agencies are still interested in going to the moon.

As far as orbital insertion goes, I have no friggin' clue.

However, being 1/10th the size of a Saturn V, probably quite difficult.

Anyone who isn't impressed doesn't understand the question.

I can't see that it would make any difference what size the rocket is, the calculations require the same maths and knowledge, just the numbers are a bit bigger. Of course the computers are much faster and smaller nowadays so that probably made it easier.
