Where are cats supposed to go when they die? What can I tell my son?

That depends entirely on you. If you are worried about not conflicting with your religion, speak with a religious advisor like a priest or your equivalent to see what they say, then you can decide if you would like your child to hear that view yet. Many people like the idea of the Rainbow Bridge, where all your pets come to meet you before going into heaven. Other people think they are in the human heaven, or that they have their own heaven. Some think they are reincarnated, either directly into another cat or there is some life force that sticks around.

Personally, I would ask him what he thinks. Explain that no one knows for sure and that lots of religions and individual people have different feelings on it. Ask him where he thinks the cat is, and where he wants him to go. Tell him that he can come to his own conclusions, the cat is alive in his memories so any ideas he may have can't be wrong as long as he carries the memories with him!

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

You can tell your Son that he went to kitty heaven! He in a bbetter place. Or you can do what I told my sister, she ran away, she might come back. After 2 months she acually forgot about that cat!

Well, they have 9 lives and after those are spent they have to go back to (depending on the spiritual upbringing in your home) a place where they get more lives and come back as another kitty...if you want to get another cat to help ease the loss.

Anything that is capable of love has a soul. Anything with a soul has a heaven. That is enough for most kids to trust in.
