Doesn't it bother people when God demands sacrifice of humans or animals?

I mean when God had Abraham force Isaac to carry wood to a stone altar and then Abraham was told to bind Isaac, lay Isaac on the altar, then cut his throat and burn his body for a sacrifice for God? If your father did that to you and told you it was God's command, what would you think of God, even if you survived? What does God do with all of the lives that have been sacrificed to him? If sacrifice is the right thing to do, why don't we do it still?

Update:

Nissi, I know Isaac survived. The question was:" If your father did that to you and told you it was God's command, what would you think of God, even if you survived?"

Update 2:

"Notice that Isaac was the *only* son of Abraham, just as Jesus is the only Son of God. "

You couldn't be more wrong.

Ishmael was Abraham's first born son, and he was banished to the desert when he was a baby in his mother's arms. (Hagar was his mother.)

Update 3:

What kind of God tests children and fathers by having the child bound hand and foot, thrown down on an altar, with a knife at the childs throat held by the hand of his father? Why is this our God?

What bothers me is humans hearing supernatural voices & performing acts of violence based on what they say they've been told. What bothers me even more is other people taking such ancient folklore seriously.

If you read more of the Bible, you would know that God did stop the sacrifice of Issac, since it was a test of faith ( Genesis 22:1-18 ). Animals are not on the same level as people. Humans are made in the image of God and are given rule over the animal world ( Genesis 1:27-28; Psalm 8:-8 ). Such a rule is demonstrated when God brought the animals to Adam in Genesis 2:19-20 for him to name them. Throughout the Bible, God allows animals to be used for the benefit of people. Their labor serves humans, their skins are used for clothing ( Genesis 3:21 ), and their meat is used for food ( Genesis 9:2-3 ). God so uses specific regulations concerning the use of animals in sacrificial offerings ( Leviticus 1-7 ). The way animals are used teaches us about our relationship with God. The animals brought for sacrifices were not to have anything wrong with them ( Leviticus 1:3, 3:1 ). This regulation ensured that the people brought their best animals to God. It is also picked up in the New Testament as a reference to the perfection of Jesus as the Lamb of God ( 1 Peter 1:19 ).

No because God was using sacrifice as a symbolic shadow to the true sacrifice which was Jesus Christ. God is showing us what he would do to his only Son.

Notice that Isaac was the *only* son of Abraham, just as Jesus is the only Son of God. Those who are children of Abraham became God's chosen people (nation of Israel) in the Old Testament and they were blessed. After the "sacrifice" (God stopped Abraham) God guaranteed that the promise to Abraham would come and that his seed and all nations on earth would be blessed because he obeyed and feared God by offerring up his only son.

Those who are children of God are blessed and are the true chosen people of God, that is they are the true Israel of God. After the crucifixion all nations on earth would be blessed because of the out pouring of the gospel. The crucifixion of Jesus Christ guaranteed that the blessing of eternal life would come to those who come to know Jesus Christ.

Abraham did not sacrifice his son on the altar, "Abraham answered, "God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son." And the two of them went on together. " (Genesis 22:8)

There were, however, many religions in those times that did require human sacrifice. "After the LORD your God has driven them out before you, do not say to yourself, "The LORD has brought me here to take possession of this land because of my righteousness." No, it is on account of the wickedness of these nations that the LORD is going to drive them out before you." (Deuteronomy 9:4)

Well the reason we dont do it any more is that: Jesus is the only truely perfect sacrafice. His atonement was once for all the believers. non more are required, nor will they be acceptable.

    *God* does not demand anything

People, who abuse the concept of it, do that

And blame or, praise it afterwords.

God is just a product of imagination of people, whom had no other means (in history), to explain the YET unexplainable.

We moved in a mean time, into 21Th century, but sadly, some still not realize it
