Should the goverment control what our children learn?

no and NO!

The government does not control our children. The media has more control over our society - television, radio, magazine, etc. Children are basically influenced by three things: 1)family 2)media (peers) 3)education. As parents we have to balanced those influences. No, I don't think parents should get taxes for home schooling their kids, because some idiot would exploit the idea and eventually the kids are the one that may suffer.

Well I paid taxes for kids to go to school and I paid out of my pocket instead of buying a big house for my kids to get an education at private school and no I m not well off/ My kids learned twice as much for half as much. They need to teach all kids across the board the same at all schools. If you want extra curricular you should pay. These schools are wasting money and not educating kids, all the new fangled fun is not teaching them as much as they should know. If kids are bad in school their parent can stay home and school them , and if they don't want the job they can make their kids quit being smart asks and get learning and not be problems to be baby sat, If they are learning disabled, or autistic or what ever they need to be in special school . government and apying taxes,everyone paying taxes is not socialism we need community efforts for society or we will be a tribal mess

To clarify, if by government you mean the education department.

Comprised of professors, doctorates and a people with a lifetime spent studying the discipline of teaching then YES.

Whether you agree or not with the history and science it's the bleeding edge of what mankind has to offer.

If you are by chance asking should congress be allowed to force their opinions and supercede those of the professional academic community, then NO.

That's an abuse of power and contrary to our system of government.

Finally, I believe home schooling should be offered a tax credit, provided access to resources and held to standardized testing.

I would love to see a market for home tutors!

Yes, there need to be minimum standards for what children are learning. No, you should not get a rebate if you homeschool. Everyone's taxes go to make sure that kids grow up literate and able to become taxpayers.

No it shouldn't, but they do. That is why my husband and I home school. We should at least not have to pay for a school we do not use.

Parents either keep fighting the system, or they abandon it, and take their kids out. We decided to rescue our children, and now they are much smarter and happier.

I watched a TV program on HBO about evangelicals. I promise, I was so angry that I wanted to cry. They literally teach false facts to these kids ... brainwash them ... with notions such as "the theory of evolution is completely wrong"
