    yes.

    1. ahimsa: this is universal and eternal. Non-violence in thought and deed is the basic tenet of humanism.

    2. simple living: again, a universally valid principle. but its practical applications are especially relevant now. Environmental conservation, biotic justice, "Nature has enough for everyone's needs, but not enough for a single person's greed!" remains true at an age when technology can denude the earth in a jiffy.

3, economic self-sufficiency: production for consumption and not for profit - this is the summation of economic justice. it ensures optimum use of resources and optimum satisfaction of needs. wastes such as excessive transportation of raw materials to manufacturing areas and of consumer items back again can be avoided. advertisement becomes sinful.

    4. humanitarian control on technology: Gandhiji hated the machine ONLY when it suppressed humanity; and made the human the slave of the machine. Appropriate technology; work as part of life instead of as an imposition - these remain eternally wise.

i believe that anyone seeking a better world and realization of human happiness should still turn to Gandhiji for meaningful lessons.

It depends on what you think Gandhi's principle's actually are. Most people have a very simplistic view of them. For example, most people are shocked by this quote:

"I do believe that, where there is only a choice between cowardice and violence, I would advise violence... I would rather have India resort to arms in order to defend her honour than that she should, in a cowardly manner, become or remain a helpless witness to her own dishonor."

Too many people think Gandhi advocated total surrender and non-violence at any cost. I'm assuming that's why you're asking the question. You're really asking, "Would a policy of total and complete non-violent surrender work in today's world."

If you want to know whether Gandhi's principles are applicable, pick up a book and learn what they are first. And you're not going to learn what they are in a Yahoo answer post.

All that said, I think the best answer to questions like this is that no political principle is applicable to every situation. Life is complex. There are no simple answers. And sometimes things work, and sometimes they don't.

I think they are still applicable. This is because he was preaching a way of life, not just a short term solution to the problem at hand (i.e. gaining independence from britain)

The principles of non-violence and civil resistance are still just as relevant to today's society, if not more so, its just that the aims are different.

I think there is one thing in particular that we should learn from him. He fully believed that humanity was beautiful; he had faith in people and trusted them to do the right thing. He believed that it was love that powered the world, not hate. I think we all have to believe that. I remember that whenever I'm sad about something that I read the news.

The relevance of Gandhi is on the increase even in this computer era.At a time when the world is being compressed by uncontrolled development,it is not hard to realize that his great ideas about peace, co-operation,love and sharing come to the rescue of the world.

It depends on the mentality of the person that how to solve a problem he is facing .

he should , first , be clear about his problem so that he can access what will be the result if he solve it in Gandhiji's way .

Secondly , if the result will be all perfect he is the king of the day .

Gandhiji's principles these days are not fully accessible in some cases .

by that u mean principle of ahimsa (non violence)? well lets see... maybe because men have lost their humanity.. well almost all are blood thirsty.. humans are becoming less and less inhuman... killing a whole bunch of people for no reason... that's why... in Gandhiji's time there were these sort of people but not as many as now...and if you mean the principle of truth..... well nowadays if u speak the truth you fall in some big trouble... so.. people are either inhuman or they are scared of the consequences resulting in following the path of truth and non violence...
