Am I wrong for questioning McCain's service to the country?

Does his service give him the right to rule the Nation. According to the documentary he was not the best soldier in the world nor was he the brightest student.

You have every right to question his politics and the right to agree or disagree. But I don't believe you should question or try and diminish his service to his country. Because of what he chose to do, as well as every other soldier, helps to maintain that right. No one should ever forget that or make light of it. We may disagree with the principles of a war, but our soldiers are there to do what they are told to do.

He also did an interview when he was in captivity and said they were treating him fine. I remember it, so it must be somewhere on the web.

I think what bothers me is what has he done since? He came home left his wife and children to live with the liquor heiress, Cindy Hensley, after a year of living together, and that scandal, his wife gave him a divorce. He married Cindy moved to Phoenix and her father literally bought him his first congressional seat and tied up Cindy's fortune so she is in charge of the money.

So I do have problems with McCain. He also talks a lot about his experience as a POW, but as a Senator helped close the records to families still looking for their loved ones missing in action. There was a push to close the record and Vietnam returned remains etc but many were still missing. During that time and he was very nasty about the families that still had sons missing and wanted the files left open. He lies a lot. If you do not believe me go to factfinder.com.

So I am tired of hearing how what happened 40 years ago is still the most relevant thing about John McCain. Also I do think that he is not up to his former level. He keeps making mistakes and seems out of touch with things he should know.

I think choosing Sarah Palin was a great crowd pleaser but what about the soldiers who may be captured and have to rely on the diplomatic skills and knowlege of the President and Vice President to make the final decision on how to handle a delicate situation so people are released and not killed. Give me Obama and Biden any day in that situation. Biden has far more experience in dealing with leaders of foreign Countries than McCain. He is smarter and respected by both Parties. So is his vice chair Senator Lugar or there is Chuck Hagel, Olympia Snow and others that may not be as into oil and religion, but do know how to handle really difficult situations.

So please do question and deal with issues. We do not want more prisoners of war or people not coming home due to lack of diplomacy, skill and real experience. Obama chose very well for the Country.

    McCain did not.

You can and should question the capacity & experience of ANYONE you might vote for, especially someone running for President.

Academics matter only when you have nothing else to go on. If a man's been working in a field for 30 years, you judge him by his record, not his SATs.

And you can certainly question if someones military service / medals were legitimate.

E.g. many of John Kerry's shipmates spoke disparagingly of his service.

But McCain military service seems to measure up. He didn't game the system to get decorations. He didn't come back and lie for the anti war crowd. And he did pass up an early POW release to deny the enemy a propaganda tool.

So by all means question his capacity to lead, but I would be reluctant to question his courage to serve.

Of course who are we kidding here? Obama's a brother & you've never voted for a Republican in your life.

You might also consider that he's never had a job that wasn't connected to the federal govt. And that his treatment of his first wife was less than honorable.

And that he seems to change his views from time to time when it makes it more possible to be elected. Many men were POWs; and he is the only one who has ever used it to try to win an election. The others just served their country, and went on with their lives.

Other than the fact that He was not a soldier, this was a great Smart and Sophisticated Question

I Pray that I could be a Liberal, so that I could be that Smart and Sophisticated

Thank GOD that someone mentioned GWB's Service, that has been proven A lie over and over again. Dan Blather lost His job over that lie.

Yes, you're wrong to question his service. The man was ***-raped by little yellow people in a jungle somewhere for 92 years. He at least deserves to be called a veteran, and given a membership at the VFW. However, his ankle-grabbing is just another metaphor for what we'd all be in for if he could be elected President. The country knows better, though, and people will make the right choice in November. If they don't - I'm moving to China, where communism is thriving whilst bushism is killing people. I'd honest to God carry a communist card before I'd admit to support of w or mccain.

Neither is Bush the brightest which shows that just about any lunkhead can run (ruin) this country. Has everyone forgotten VP Quayle? He was a heartbeat away from the presidency. Scary thought!

Besides, McCain is in government service and therefore is subject to scrutiny, so to answer your question, no, you are not wrong.

Just because he fought in the war doesnt mean hes going to make the best president. Just look at President bush. Those who voted for him i bet theyre regretting their decision. America is struggling financially and its affecting the rest of the world. I know here in australia were doing it tough.

Mccain wants us to think he's the victim because he was captured and tortured. Thats very dangerous especially in the mind of a tortured soul, they harbour nothing but hatred towards those who harmed him. I think what you really need is a fresh start.

If the first girl who answered is going to question Obama, i question her motives as to why. Apart from racism why would she vote for mccain? I dont get it. If you want 4 more yrs of war then join the marines, the army the navy. But dont sit back, relax and expect others to fight for you.

Education and service to country are 2 criteria in a much larger pool of requirements. Besides it was the Naval Academy, a very good college.

No, his service doesn't give him the "right" to rule the nation but it does make him a credible canidate...more so than obama who has NO qualifications.
