Book terminology question part one?
We are so confused.
"p. = one page pp. = more than one pages, thus also note a book reference to p.50, or pp.51-53, another example would be doubling up the letter L for line, this l.3, or ll.3-5."
What?! What's the bit about a book reference?! Gah!

I am not sure what your question is, and references are stated differently according to style manuals, like the Chicago Manual of Style.
But let's say that you want to reference pages 23 through 50 in a fictitious book I will make up. Here is how a typical reference would look like:
"How to Rehabilitate and Save Abandoned Pets," by Peterson, Emery, Simon & Shuster, 1995, pp. 23-50
That is how a reference would be made to those pages in a bibilography.
Take a look at some books with bibliographies to get an idea of how references are structured. Just realize, there are many different styles. It all depends on the publisher, who establishes their Style Manual. One of the most well known style manuals is the Chicago Manual of Style.

In the instance you cite, the writer's use of the term "book reference" pertains to the use in bibliography of the appreviations p and pp. He/She means that, say, in a bibliography of Nathaniel Hawthorne, a critic uses a term found on p. 50 of "The House of the Seven Gables." In other words, a book reference to p. 50, or, if the word popped up again in the pages from 51-53, the shorthand for that would be pp 51-53.

It all depends on what format you use and what you are referencing for.
When I was writing my academic essays, I referenced the books, authors, quotes and the pages, but not the lines.
