Rep. VP Nominee Sarah Palin wants Creationism taught as science?
Does this make you want to support McCain/Palin or not?

In every statement she has made she has been extremely political and seems to take a very balanced view on this and other subjects where her personal beliefs are at odds with rational thought. In reality this is a reasonable approach for someone with strong beliefs but that is faced with making decisions for a diverse group of people.
I am in no way in favor of teaching creationism, unless it is used as a tool to show how unlike anything scientific it is, it could be a very powerful eyeopener to all. After all the main reason that I'm an atheist is because I, as a creationist, objectively researched the science behind it - only to find none.

I disagree with Palin's point of view. It is a violation of church & state, if this is being taught in a public school. I also believe that it is the parent's position to teach creationism from a religious stance. Keeping in mind that not all faiths are the same, I can't imagine what a curriculum would look like that would include all faiths and not offend anyone, or leave anyone out. If a parent is truly strong in their faith & belief, then they will see to it that their children are raised knowing all about how the world came to be.

I don't have the strength to list all the aspects which are troubling re Palin and her whole agenda; suffice to say she is a train wreck and if any further evidence was needed re McCain's galloping senility this is it in spades. He thinks he's back in Vietnam and Palin is part of the USO tour.
As far as her wants with regard to creationism, I do not think she should have any say in any decision that affects students; she is not exactly a role model for anyone.

I am a Christian and I don't think creationism should be taught as a science. God did not intend the Bible to be a scientific explanation of how he did something. It is a book intended to teach us WHY he did something.
I do not support teaching creationism itself, but I don't see any harm if a teacher mentions that there are other thoughts on the subject of how the earth got here etc. She can inform the students if they want more of an explanation, they can search out a Christian Bible and read the first chapter.

Yes, she does. And even if I *would* have considered voting for McCain, his picking her as VP negates the possibility completely. (And not just because of this. I don't like pretty much everything about her. She's frightening to me.) There's almost nothing Obama can do to screw up now that would make me vote for McCain/Palin. He could be caught running naked down 5th Avenue and I'd still vote for him over McCain/Palin.

It can be taught with a handout which says, The idea that God created the world and everything in it is an alternative theory to explain why our world is how it is today.
Only bigoted people and haters would disallow this simple alternative explanation.
It is funny how people who are liberals seem to only have free speech in mind when it comes to ideas that they agree with.

It's more that I don't want to support Obama/Biden than I want to support McCain/Palin.
And whether they teacher or discuss creationism in school has very little relevance to how I'll vote.

What she said sounds reasonable to me, I support her and McCain over Obama the abortion supporter and Biden the tax and spend Washington insider.
In an interview Thursday, Palin said she meant only to say that discussion of alternative views should be allowed to arise in Alaska classrooms:
"I don't think there should be a prohibition against debate if it comes up in class. It doesn't have to be part of the curriculum."
She added that, if elected, she would not push the state Board of Education to add such creation-based alternatives to the state's required curriculum.
Members of the state school board, which sets minimum requirements, are appointed by the governor and confirmed by the Legislature.
"I won't have religion as a litmus test, or anybody's personal opinion on evolution or creationism," Palin said.

No one is going to dumb down my kid in school by teaching him that "satan planted those fossils."
I could never vote for an anti-choice homophobic creationist.
