Those of you with cats and dogs dont you find that?

Cats are so much more expensive than dogs? When I say this to people they go "eh? how come?" but honestly my cats(3) definately cost more than my two dogs(chow chows). I admit they cats have wet food and the dogs have wet food as a treat twice a week but is it me or do others here find the same?

It depends on the size of the dog,the bigger the more expensive, cats are usually of similar size. Cats have the advantage of hunting to suplement their diet. Also cats can survive happily on dry food and wet food only as an occassional treat too.

My dogs cost a lot more than my cats. I have two cats and two large dogs. I go through 2 35lb bags of dog food a month at $48 each and 2 8lb bags of cat food at $8 each. I spend about $14 a month on wet food for the dogs and about $12 on wet food for the cats. I probably spend about $30 on cat litter.

We have one dog and one cat. The food costs and vet bills seem to be about the same. Our Kitty loves to eat (and is not overweight), so it seems like we buy cat food more often. Of course you have to buy cat litter and supplies, whereas a dog you can just take him outside. So that is one extra expense. I guess cats can cost a little more than dogs for that reason.

If your cats shed alot and you have to vacuum more often, that could make your power bill go up a little too, maybe.

yes i can agree with you. and they really are more if they're house cats and you have to purchase kitty liter, and a new liter box every month or two like i used to do. but i do think the shots for dogs are more pricey than for cats, so thats why they probably look at you like that.

Listen. I had dog and loved him way more than my cat.

But the only reson cats cost more is because they don't

make as much of a mess as a dog does.

    you mean to maintain?

i agree because cats you have to but a litter box, stuff to put in the litter box and my cats' collars often brake so we have to buy new ones, scratching posts, beds, toys.

dogs are more expensive to actually BUY but not to maintain because all you have to do is buy food and a bed, and a couple of toys

Make sure you factor in labor... Cats don't need to be bathed or groomed, and neither does one have to scrape up their droppings... Felines Rule! OK, I like dogs, a lot, too, but I like them MORE when they're not mine to clean up after...
