What books did Sarah Palin want banned?

Sarah Palin fired a librarian after she refused to censor the Wasilla Public Library's inventory in favor of Palin's fundamentalist morality. Does anybody know specifically what books were in question? My first assumption would be anything dealing with sex education, as that would jibe with her (ironic, now) abstinence-only position, but that's just speculation. Anyone on Y!A who was there at the time?

"Shortly after becoming mayor, former city officials and Wasilla residents said, Ms. Palin approached the town librarian about the possibility of banning some books, though she never followed through and it was unclear which books or passages were in question.

Ann Kilkenny, a Democrat who said she attended every City Council meeting in Ms. Palin’s first year in office, said Ms. Palin brought up the idea of banning some books at one meeting. “They were somehow morally or socially objectionable to her,” Ms. Kilkenny said.

The librarian, Mary Ellen Emmons, pledged to “resist all efforts at censorship,” Ms. Kilkenny recalled. Ms. Palin fired Ms. Emmons shortly after taking office but changed course after residents made a strong show of support. Ms. Emmons, who left her job and Wasilla a couple of years later, declined to comment for this article."

Update:

Digging around after Roo's sources, I found this little blurb:

“Palin Asked City Librarian About Censoring Books, Insisted It Was ‘Rhetorical.’ In 1996, according to the Frontiersman, Wasilla’s library director Mary Ellen Emmons said Palin asked her outright if she could live with censorship of library books. Emmons said, “This is different than a normal book-selection procedure or a book-challenge policy. … She was asking me how I would deal with her saying a book can’t be in the library.” Palin said in response, “Many issues were discussed, both rhetorical and realistic in nature.” [Frontiersman, 12/18/96]”

This seems contrary to the tone of most of the reporting I've seen on this issue, and the wide context of the quote itself doesn't eliminate the prospect of an accompanying narrower attempt at censorship. I'll keep digging.

Sorry, Roo, that list you forwarded is, in fact, a hoax. It's a well-known index of famous banned books, many of which hadn't even been published in 1996.

The article I read had a list of the books she allegedly wanted banned.

Blubber by Judy Bloom (Judy Bloom, really??)

    Catch 22

    Adventures of Tom Sawyer

    The Color Purple

    Catcher in the Rye

    Of Mice and Men

    The Learning Tree

    My Friend Flicka

    To Kill a Mockingbird

Dozens more. Book banning scares the crap out of me.... I wish I had some kind of confidence in the blogs and media reporting.... so much crap and half truths out there, not sure I trust the reports. If it is true and if she is called on it and can't explain away her stance... not sure how you vote for someone with such a narrow mind.

I don't think there is a list of the books she wanted banned but here are a couple of articles that tell all.

Just what America needs. A woman who will bring book burning back as a community sport.

What was McCain thinking? he wasn't, and he doesn't. McCain is a risk America can't afford to take.
