Why does Major League Baseball call it's championship the World Series?
That's sort of self-centered isn't it? Since only two countries (United States and Canada) are even represented in this so-called "World" Series. That's hardly the world.
You can't really even call it a "North American Series" since Mexico has no representation.
The Super Bowl makes no claims like that, other than that it is "Super". Nor does the Stanley Cup. Nor does the NBA Championship.

You are serious? Self centered? I can think of at least 12 countries that are represented in MLB. I think the MLB is the most diverse of all the major sports. What would you like for them to call the The America's Championship? The World Series and MLB was created in the USA. If you don't like you can watch Japan's baseball where you have to wait 9 years before a player can leave. Or you can garnish the players wages to come and play early in the MLB. We should give them hell for that. How many Ichiro's and Fukudome's are the MLB missing out on? The MLB, NFL, NASCAR, NHL, NBA, or whoever deserve the right to call their championship whatever they want. It's a democracy of World Champions...

I know this is not the actual reason they call it the World Series, but there are a lot of representatives of other countries playing for teams in MLB. There are probably more players from other countries then there are players from the U.S. So trust me, while the World Series may not be played against teams throughout the world, the MLB is filled with the best talent from across he world.

I heard somewhere that back when baseball first started that they were going to have other countries participate in the mlb but i guess it never worked out.

Every single country in the world doesn't participate in the "World Cup" Soccer tournament either... so why do they call it the "World Cup"? Pretty damn self-centered as well
The World Series began in 1903...no one else was playing baseball except for teams in the US.
