The Massachusetts Bay Colony was theocratic in that most of its laws were derived from laws and admonitions found in the Protestant Bible. It was democratic in its system of representation in the Great and General Court. It was authoritarian in its delegation of power to male heads of households, and to the ministers who acted as patriarchs in each town.
