Dog Show Handler behavior - what are they chewing/throwing to the dog?
I attended my first Dog Show competition two weeks ago as a spectator. My family saw this as an opportunity to see a few breeds we've been considering as an addition to our family. During the competition, I noticed the handlers were biting something and feeding it to their dogs. What is it? Some of the handlers stored this "thing" in their mouths, others stored it in their pocket. Some handlers bit half of it and threw it on the floor, picked it up then put it back in their pockets. Other handlers bit half of it fed it to their dog then put the rest in their own mouths. I'm wondering what is it and why do the handlers do this?

Some people use cheese, some sausage, my cousin sometimes uses pepperami, it's different for everyone- it just depends on what makes your dog 'tick' and focus on you.
It prevents them standing fishing in and out of their pocekts for treats (which looksso messy and unprofessional in the showirng), so if they just put a small block of cheese/cocktail sausage in their mouth, they can just bite a bit off here and there and give it to the dog.

It's bait, different for each handler, commonly dried liver, microwaved hot dogs, cheese or chicken. The point of bait is to keep the dogs attention focused on you and to make them look alert.Personally putting bait in my mouth gags me.Some people use small squeaky toys to bait their dogs.
