what if all Christians never answered a mocker's question?
do you think that the mocking would continue if we did not come back with a response. Remember when Jesus was sent to His death, He spoke not a word.
for hebe- great thought actually. I do answer when I really feel that they are seeking- sometimes even those that mock actually are interested in things of God- but when the same person continues to mock, and they hear the truth, some have closed their hearts
Mocking is just being nasty- when sincerely asks questions about other faiths, I will answer, but when they blatantly over and over again mock my God- it gets to the point that I need to follow Jesus' words- "brush off the dirt from your feet and move on"
Sarah- I am more talking about when they mock God Himself. They can say anything about me, they desire
Lady Lazarus- the last thing I want to do is antagonize those that do not believe- do me a favor, and anyone else can too- look at my profile and if there is anything that seems antagonistic tell me and I will ask for forgiveness. Remember though that sharing truth in love is not meant to be antagonistic.
Cheiko- I realize that he was not silent completely on the cross- what I was referring to was when he was in front of those who mocked and accused Him, he spoke not a word
When someone disagrees with me I DO NOT CALL IT MOCKING AT ALL- read some more of my questions and answers- what I consider mocking is when the person who hates God enough they are rude and insulting about our differences- and actually curses God.

You are correct in saying that when Jesus appeared before Herod, He did not argue with Herod...also, remember when Paul said that if you witness to someone and they don't want to listen, then we christians are to walk away and dust off our sandals. So, to answer a mocker's question, I will, but to continue to answer that particular person's mockery questions, I usually pass them up because I figure they really are hardened to the truth and want no part of it. I think some may want to know down deep and may not even realize it, so maybe a seed will be planted. So, for this reason, I answer some......who knows if that seed may germinate some time in their life. God bless

Of course the mocking would continue.
Mockers mock because Christians exist.
Even if the Christians do not answer, it will continue, because they are still there.
Even if the Christians aren't listening or reading the questions it will continue for the enjoyment of fellow mockers.
Not answering will do nothing to stop it.
But it will ease up on the ridicule to a certain individual who replys with a powerful southern preacher's message in an answer that includes any trace of "The bible says"...
Mockers will be around always, no matter what Christians do or say. All we can do is pray for them to find the light, or at least realize that even by the miraculous chance that they are right, they are still in the wrong. =/

We'd probably not get very good at thinking about what we believe.
By the way, I find Jesus answering questions or otherwise commenting on his treatment during and after his trial, up until his death, in the following passages:
Matthew 26:64; 27:11
Mark 14:62
Luke 22:67-70; 23:3, 28-31, 34
John 18:20-21, 23, 34, 36-37

When Jesus said 'Blessed are the poor in spirit, for the Kingdom of God is theirs', He was indicating that we have to know our need of God to be able to receive widsom and help. Most mockers certainly don't know their need of God. With them any word of wisdom from the gospels is a seed that is snatched away before they can think about it, since they have no genuine interest (Mark 4 - parable of the sower). A few mockers do have a bit of a genuine quest for God I would say, but are expressing cynicism and some bitterness through the mockery.

I respect everyone's right to believe whatever they want to believe. I think that most atheists couldn't care less about the adherents of any faith. As long as we go about our days without pushing ourselves on each other or interfereing in each other's lives, everyone's personal religion is irrelevent.
Mocking is not a form of question or answer. It's an attempt to get attention. If you choose to respond to a mocker, you're giving them what they want. If you're getting something off your chest and it makes you feel better, go for it. The sad reality is that some people just can't get enough attention, and they'll always be there to say whatever it takes to make people notice them.

Why do you think that pointing out the lunacy of beliefs is mocking? Could it be viewed simply as a challenge for you to use your intelligence?
As for Jesus not talking when he was sent to his death, you need to review what he said after he was on the cross. He was in a tough situation. I see no reason to think he thought of himself as part of the Trinity. That appears to be the invention of St. Paul at a later time.

I think you are 100% correct. What's more, I think you should follow Jesus's example- starting right now!
...and why is it that so many christians on here call any opinion contarary to theirs disrespect or mocking?

Why do you think that what they are doing is mocking. could it be that they are pointing out the absurdities of your beliefs and the abusive behavior of many of the Christians here.

I would say they will find another way to mock us. Like ask a real question and then report us for something . Satan is very wise and can come up with something to mock God , I'm sure.

fyi...Jesus was not silent on the cross...he made arrangements for his mother to be cared for and he cried out to His Father...
He answered the mockers by his death, burial and resurrection, which we still honor to this day, 2000 years later..
Quelle(n): of course the mocking would continue. what if all Christians gave a snappy comeback or great one-liner to a mocker's question...we'd all laugh a whole lot more.
