What is the attraction of the "Bachelor/Bachlorette"?

I don't understand why this show is so popular.  Not only is it an illusion that anyone could "fall in love" with someone in such an environment but what a horrible thing to do to people?  

Last night, for instance, Jason is head over heals in love with that woman.  He goes  and picks out a beautiful diamond ring with the fantasy that he will get down on his knee, ask Deanna to marry him, she will say yes and then he will live happily ever after with the woman of his dreams.  She did, after all, spend the day kissing him and leading him on to believe that she was feeling the same way.  

Did you see the look in his eyes when she told him know?  Did you see the pain.. the anquish, the shattered dreams?  Is this entertainment?  Do you really enjoy seeing this?  

I suppose some found seeing gladiators fight to the death was entertaining to but I don't understand it.  Please explain to me why this show interests you.

Did you not see last year when someone did the same thing to DeAnna?  He led her on , made her believe he loved her and was going to ask her to marry him?

Actually he did it to the last 2 girls standing. And guess what ? He didn't pick either one of them.

These people know going in that they may fall in love and that there are 1 in 25 chances they will not get picked at the end.

He said she made him realize he could love again . So something good came out of it.  And they both said they are going to keep him in their lives as a very good friend.

I think the show is great and there have been quite a few marriages so far and even a little boy for one couple.

Don't watch it if you don't like it.  I don't like alot of the reality shows so I change the channel when they come on.
