Question Regarding Satan?
I have seen a number of answers here that refer to Satan's "powers" and i have to wonder :
1) Exactly how powerful do Christians think Satan is ?
2) Since he was an angel, wouldn't he have no more than whatever his abilities as an angel were prior to getting the boot?
3) Semantics aside, wouldn't attributing powers to him that can be carried out independent of God technically make him an "evil god" and thus make Christianity polytheistic?
For all those giving me smartass answers about there being no satan, think of this in the same vein as me asking a question about a fictional character within the context of the novel. Maybe I should have phrased it "according to Christian theology..."
Regarding the third part of question: I am using the word "god" in a generic sense and not implying he is more powerful. Many polytheistic religions have "gods" that are not good and/or not even worshiped.

Okay I will try and answer it the best I can. Please forgive me my answers might not be perfect but everyone has their own belief with this sort of thing it seems so I can only tell you mine.
1.You might come across some Christians who give Satan as much power as God but in reality he is not that strong and he is not omnipotent like some Christians might seem to think. He does have demons and such working for him, and I am not quoting the bible here but he took about a third of the angels with him when he was kicked out of heaven.
2.Yes, I think so. He might have even less but I can not answer that question for sure.
3.He would only be an "evil god" if you were to put him in the place of a god (some people do that) but trust me satan is nowhere near being a god and if I remember correctly, and I am not quoting the bible here either by the way, he was kicked out of heaven for trying to be in the place of God.
As for some people who think that Satan controls all their actions, like someone said before it is like a crutch, but on the other hand he can influence your thoughts and actions. All Satan does is figure out your weakness and then tempt you and afterward comes the quilt and anguish, all this obviously depending on the person.
I really hope this helps you.

Although the human Spirit has infinite power, in it is contented and appeased with love it lacks any immediate need for self preservation.
The power of evil thrives and feeds upon the vulnerable sufferings and multiplies hate. Although this hate is no way comparable to the power of Love, the ardency of hatemonger’s and the carnal natured to acquire power outweighs any such urgency on the part of the goodly.
For this reason evil remains in the world and thrives amongst the good where it is tolerated. By this stance it tainst subtly the good and then becomes an integral part of people wherein all will cite ’Sin as an intrinsic part of human nature, rather than the corruption and disease of the souls that it is.

In regards to the powers that Satan has the scripture eludes that Satan has stolen our authority that God gave to men in the beginning. That is when we are without the power of God behind us. Therefore, Satan is not a god but a thief. Jesus tells us that in John chapter 10. He gained access to the authority men had over the earth and the systems of the earth. This God gave to Adam and Eve in the beginning until Eve was fooled by Satan's lies. At this point the Serpent Satan gained access to our authority until Jesus came and redeemed it back to those who believe in the promise given to Adam and Eve that one would come to destroy the works of Satan. Thus, any Christian who has the Spirit of God, can take authority over Satan and his works and take back the blessing of God.

How "powerful" are good angels? God allowed Satan to rule this earth for a short time. see what a mess he made of his short time of ruling? One day very soon Satan will impersonate Jesus coming and will "work signs and wonders" so that most of the whole world will believe that Jesus has come. He will institute laws on our land which are contrary to God's laws. He will cause all to either follow him or be punished for not following him. Satan originally was the most beautful angel in heaven Isaiah 14:12-14

1. most Christians are ignorant of the character of satan if they believe he exists at all
2. he was an angel, the guardian cherub - the cheif angel among the affairs of heaven. God's prime minister and worship leader in heaven. lucifer (light bearer) was named the son of the morning. the only power he has is the ability to lie.
3. satan is on a leash. read the book of job. so much he desires to do but God does not permit him.

Satan which means adversary with in the kingdom, Was Lucifer an arch angel created by the Father to lead the other angels
in worship to God.In Ezekiel Lucifer states that I will be as like the most high never that he would be God or higher than God.
He rebelled because of the brightness of his wisdom, which may him disobey and rebell and was cast to earth.
As far as powers go Satan dwells in the flesh of men, most heinous acts are carried out by men instigated by Satan.
This issue is not a matter of power, But what is behind Satan acts. His goal is to frustrate God's eternal purpose. God's eternal purpose is to have a group of people a cop orate man to have God's image(expression) and dominion (to carry out His authority) on earth. Genesis 1:26-27
The first man Adam failed because Adam and Eve ate of the tree of knowledge of good and evil that God commanded them not to eat Genesis 2:17
Reading Genesis 3:1-7 we read how Eve deceived and ate and gave to Adam that is how Satan got into mans flesh.
Man who was God's precious creation was damaged by Satan. But the last Adam Christ became a life giving spirit 1Corinthians 15:45) He overcame Satan. Christ while living on earth expressed God's
image and carried out His authority. Through Christ death and resurrection Satan was defeated nailed to cross in mans flesh. In eyes God's when Christ resurrected he over came Satan, sin and death, and is now the Holy life giving Spirit to come into mans spirit.
Today the church made up of only the true born again believers with Christ as our head, should carry out God's purpose to express God's image and to execute His authority
The church is the increase of Christ, the church is also the one new man the corporate man to carry out God's purpose.
Satan can never be considered a God in any sense. He is what God created him to be an arch angel but rebelled he also will be cast into the lake of fire At the consummation of this age.

1) Exactly how powerful do Christians think Satan is ?
Satan can kill us can cause wind storms, entice evil people to aatack and kill us.
Job 1:12 And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.
Job 1:15 And the Sabeans fell upon them, and took them away; yea, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
Job 1:16 While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The fire of God is fallen from heaven, and hath burned up the sheep, and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
Satan caused fire to fall from heaven as if GOD did it.
The same thing the antichrist will do.
Job 1:19 And, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
2) Since he was an angel, wouldn't he have no more than whatever his abilities as an angel were prior to getting the boot?
Eph 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
3) Semantics aside, wouldn't attributing powers to him that can be carried out independent of God technically make him an "evil god" and thus make Christianity polytheistic?
NO
Mat 17:19 Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?
Mat 17:20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
Mat 17:21 Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.
Notice the power of the demon.
The disciples could not cast him out even though they tried.
Jesus said the type of demon the man had was so strong that it would take Prayer and fasting to remove them.
We can only over come satan and his power by the power of the Holy Spirit living in us.

Satan is very powerful. That is why we must appeal to Jesus always to protect us in all situations.
When Satan rebelled and was exiled from Heaven, he lost most of his powers.
Satan cannot read our minds, create life, tempt us beyond our ability to resist. He is not an evil God. He is a fallen angel.

To answer your third question, when you're a christian you only serve one master. It's written in the bible. Don't have the verse, sorry.

Satan is just another fictional christian god so do not even worry about it.
