should i move from boston to london (england)?

englands cold and wet...its way more expensive than the US ..1 pound is roughly about 2.4 dollars..i lived in London and Los Angeles so i should know best ....u wont find a job easily here because there's about 5 million that are unemployed ..there arent enough jobs around ...and most likely they wont issue you a work visa if u dont possess something that most people cant offer ..eg masters degree etc .. i suggest u visit england before u make any serious decisions because it is a long process

I'm English and worked in London for several years. Sometimes the grass isn't always greener on the other side!!

1. The cost of living is sky high here and we have a credit crunch problem at the moment. We don't get 'extra amenities'. The more you try and help yourself here the more the government will take away in taxes.

3. Crime is getting worse, with street crime being the biggest problem.

4. The weather this year is just awful. It's nearing the end of June and this month has rained almost continuously.

5. English people are leaving the UK in droves to get a better life abroad.

You will definitely earn a great deal of money if you manage to get a job in the TV world but this won't be so easy.

I moved from the south of the country to the north. I'm in a county where crime is very low, people are much friendlier and there is a community spirit. My children are much happier away from the London area.

First of all, you can't just move to the UK from the US, you will need a visa first. Which means you need to find a job in the UK and get them to give you a visa to move here.

weather -- it is cold and rainy here. I have yet to put on shorts this year and it's almost July! It does not snow here like in Boston though.

cost of living -- is terribly expensive here too. For what we were paying in mortgage for 1 month in Dallas gets us 1 week of rent here, for a smaller place too.

healthcare -- the nhs is good in that all Dr's appts etc are free, but if you need surgery sometimes you have to wait weeks or months. Personally I am very glad to not use nhs here but be able to go see a private Dr instead.

Well, I'm from London and I think London is amazing! You need to do your research though, especially in regards to your job.

Go to www.google.co.uk, select search UK webpages, and search jobs+broadcasting. This will bring up a whole load of webpages. If possible contact some agencies who deal with positions in that field and send them your resume. They should be able to give you a realistic idea of salaries and the job market and might be able to generate some interest.

Bear in mind the recession is worldwide, and England is no different. Transport and rent in London is ludicrous. However a change of scenery might be what you need and if you have been living in the same city your whole life, I think you will really enjoy the proximity to Europe, which is cheap to travel to. Check out some of the air fares on www.ryanair.com and www.easyjet.com. London is fun and cosmopolitan with an amazing history, great pubs and clubs and cool people.

Www.loot.co.uk is one of the premier classified newspapers for house hunting and should give you an idea of rents.

As far as weather goes - England is cold and wet most of the year. But during Summer there's great places in Spain and Greece to go to with wonderful beaches!

It depends what visa you are on as to whether you have free access to the NHS - the National Health Service.

Sorry to dampen your spirits about coming to work in the UK but as an American citizen you cannot just up sticks and move to the UK hoping to get a job. Unless you have a lot of money to invest here, are being relocated by a company from the States with a branch over here, or have a skill that is in high demand over here, then you will not be able to get a work permit. People who are from the EEA (European Economic Area) are given preference over any vacancies available here...it's EU law. We would also have a problem trying to move Stateside and getting a job there too.

Well, if you wanna live in london, all the house prices are really really high!

the fuel prices are high at the moment

but yeah london is a good place to live, there are other places to live other than london that are good for television/broadcasting etc

There are broadcasting studios all over the country

Birmingham, Nottingham, London doesn't hold all of the headquarters

but good luck its really nice over here

Oh and it depends where you live as to the weather

mostly rain if you live south west

To be honest, your problems are exactly the same as ours. Jobs are hard to come by, it's extremely expensive to do anything here, it's cold and rainy, as an American, you won't get free healthcare here, only British citizens can, so you'll still need insurance. I suggest you come here for a week and try out life here, the only major difference is location.

ok well if you're looking for hot weather then England is definitely not the place you should be moving to lol.....but other than that and the high cost of living, London is nice and if you're ready for a change then why not.....you have to be definitely sure it's what you want thought because it's a big move

London is very expensive in living. If you got a job already, than I would move, but without you better stay were you are.
