What made you believe that there is a creator of the universe and to follow the faith you practice?
I am asking what primary event (if there is a main turning point) that caused YOU to believe as you do, in the faith that you practice.
Regardless of what faith you follow. Be it Baha’i, Christian, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, Sikhism, Wicca, or whatever.
I was hoping for a few more responses from people that practice or converted to other faiths. But sometimes things just are not meant to be.
I would like to thank everyone that has answered, not only for your answers, but also for being polite with your answers. I have to admit I was presently surprised by the quality of everyone’s response.
As for me and when I really got behind my faith, like many indicated, I grew up in a religious setting.
A lot of people say that school, science, education, etc is what pushed/turned them away from God. To me I never really had a problem between religion and science. Except for “the whackos” on both extremes saying we all have to believe their way and only their way.
I always looked at it this way:
The Bible tells us WHAT God did. With Science we with our limited but expanding knowledge try to figure out HOW God did it.
So I never really had a conflict with that.
As I got older, many of the church groups and their practices did more to push me away from God than anything else. Especially the way some teach one thing then practice another. But amazingly while I did step away from Our Creator I never really forgot that he was there.
However, it did take a long time for me to put a few points together before I really came back to walking with Our Creator.
One
One point that should have been so obvious regarding the incorrect teaching and practices of some groups. 2Co 11:13 For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as Christ's apostles. 2Co 11:14 And no wonder, for even Satan masquerades as an angel of light.
Many churches today really make “religion” overly complicated with a lot of worldly, man made doctrine and not spiritual practices.
For once one accepts God as The Creator of everything, Jesus, His only begotten Son, as Our Lord and Savior, and allows the Holy Sprit to move into/guide our heart/soul, there is only one rule that we have been given to follow. It is incredibly simple yet can be very complex when one really looks at it.
The one and only rule that Jesus said for us to follow is:
“Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.”
The other point that for some reason took a long time for the words to really sink into me goes:
Never confuse the practices of the people with the church,
Never confuse the practices of the church with religion,
And Never Ever confuse the practices of religion with God.
Seems simple enough but for some reason it just took a while for me to really understand.
May Our Creator Bless and watch over you and your family.

when i did alot of scientific research and found that no one could realy explain for sure how the world came to be. when i look at all the things on this earth i know there must be a god who created it. there is no other explination that could make sence.
i mean..how could every living being come out of a chemical that made and explosion (the big bang) it doesnt make sense. and if the world was created by 2 chemicals coliding :where did the chemicals come from?
there had to have been someone or something there from before time began to create those chemicals.
it just has to be someone there creating life.
anything else leaves gaps that no one will or even can explain. ask a scientist who believes in the big bang theory how the chimicals came to be nd what made them react that way... i guarentee you they will get lost because they dont know.
I know god exists because there is no other belief that makes full sense.

There were a few actually.
But the primary event was this: Me - reading the 4 spiritual laws(Gideons New Testament) about:
1. God who loves you.
2. Me in sin.
3. Jesus died for Me, personally.
4. Receive Jesus, and *bam*, eternal living.
Before that, as I was raised in a Christian school I was pretty much a deist. Or a theist. One who believed that there is a God but don't know who or what!?, where? and how to find this guy. Quite frankly, no one proselytized, no one preached in school. I was converted based on Bible verses and singing and prayer and other's prayers for me. I could not and did not believe on my own. I believe that Jesus raises His lambs to follow Him. "My sheep know my voice and they follow Me. If a stranger comes and speaks to them, they will run away from him because they don't know him. Those whom the Father has given me, I give life and will raise to life at the Last Day." ~paraphrase

No turning point needed to understand that a Creator is the only logical answer.

I read C.S. Lewis' comment that the Savior was NOT a fine man and great teacher. He was either the Son of YHVH, or He was a raving lunatic. it occurred to me that the same argument held for Scripture. I read the book, and there were things about it I could not justify throwing out.

Christianity, probably because this is what I was raised in. Many people seem to stick to what they were raised in. But then again, many break away because something caused them to believe other wise.
