Vacation Bible School craft ideas?

Question

This is my first year teaching VBS and the crafts are left up to the teacher. I would like to do maybe one or two large crafts that the child will actually use. They don't have to take up the entire week but need to take up more than one night each. If anyone has any ideas about some crafts that would work with kindergarten age children I would love to hear about them. They also need to be money sensible.

When I was in VBS, we made God's Eyes: http://www.makingfriends.com/godseyes.htm

We also made little loaves of bread and while they were baking, our teacher told us about the Eucharist. You could also have them color pictures: http://bellsouthpwp.net/m/o/mood/coloring/christian.html

Or make cotton ball sheep and tell them about Psalm 23, so they would know about Jesus being our shepherd. Or you could tie in the story of him being the Lamb of God.

Check out Oriental Trading Company.  They have an entire section of VBS crafts and projects.  You don't have to buy from them but you can check out their site to get ideas.  Kids love necklaces or bracelets and making their own is always fun.

It's been a VERY long time since I taught VBS, but you might consider something like a bookcover for their bible?  Or maybe a simple beading project to make a necklace with a cross?
