Do you think Cinco De Mayo has become popular with non Mexicans because it is marketed as a drinker's holiday?

It is not a Mexican Indepedence day, nor the end of a war. It honors a battle victory between Mexico and France.

Mexico defaulted on its debt, so France took the opportunity to invade.

I feel it has become reduced to a marketing ploy to boost liquor and food sales that takes advantage of Mexican heritage and sentimentality in the US.

it is regularly idea that Cinco de Mayo ("The fifth of might want to" in Spanish) is Mexico's Independence Day, in spite of the indisputable fact that the day honestly commemorates the conflict of Puebla. On might want to 5, 1861, Mexican forces led by technique of widely used Ignacio Zaragoza conquered the French occupation forces close to the city of Puebla. it is this victory it is celebrated each might want to 5 for the time of Mexico and the U.S, at the same time as Mexico's Independence Day is widely known September 16.

i do think it is definately just a drinkers holiday....mexicans (at least in mexico) don.t really celebrate cinco de mayo...they celebrate the actual independence day...and in a HUGE way.......especially in mexico city....i.ve always wanted to be in mexico at that time but haven.t been able to because of school.....even i look at cinco de mayo as a party day to eat and drink mexican food and drinks......i dunno why they don.t just celebrate the real independence day in september.......guess its too late to switch over....or maybe it should just be added on as a second mexican drinking holiday.....but at the same time, why not celebrate, it was a win for mexico that is pretty highly remembered (i don.t remember the specifics really, but if i ask my mom, who is straight outta mexico, she knows the facts clearly)........but, i.ll take it as an opportunity to get my drink on......
