running vs elyptical not getting same workout? any other cardio ideas?
I have bad shin splints, I think I got them over the years from skiing 100+ days a year in my 20's, It's difficult to run for long because of the pain, but I am fine on elyptical only problem I don't feel like I am getting the same workout as running. Any other ideas for cardio?

The elliptical might not feel like as much of a workout because it reduces stress on the joints, but it can be as effective as running since cardio is more about increasing your heart rate. You can still get great results with the elliptical (and stay away from shin splits) by keeping your heart rate at 80-85% your maximum (to find those numbers take 220 subtract your age and multilpy by .80 and .85 respectivley). You can buy heart rate monitors for about 20 bucks to use while you do your cardio to keep you on track. Or if you just get sick of elyptical take a spinning class or for a total body work out try swimming.

you need to walk instead of run a you will get a better workout and donot run to hard. but you need to jog slow and than pick up the past
