digital converter?

daughter has been told she needs new one and been told she doesn't. She has digital converter for dvd player--will she be able to use it next year or does she need to buy the converter for the change over. Thanks to all in advance

YOU DO NOT NEED A DIGITAL CONVERTOR for a DVD Player...period....

Whatever the hell they are chaning to the DIGITAL TV have NOTHING to do BETWEEN your DVD player and the TV...

However, if she need to watch "DIGITAL TV" over the air (or any TV at all once all TV is required to broadcast in digital signal)  she WILL need digital convertor to convert that digital TV signal (over the air)  to her TV box.   

Keep in mind in any video/audio or even computer system.  There are 3 PARTS

input -->  process -- > output
When you watch a DVD Movie.  
DVD Disc --> DVD Player  -- > TV

When you watch a VHS movie
VHS Tape --> VHS Player  -- > TV

So you are not change any of the above setting.

but  when you watch your broadcast TV 
analog signal (over the air) --> TV (internal tuner)  -- > TV

and since they are switching analog signal to the DIGIDAL one...so your "Internal Turner" that use to process analog signal will no longer work.....that's when you need a digital converter (Unless you have an internal digital turner in your TV)

I'm not too familiar with the converters but I do know if you satellite tv the converters won't be necessary. If you do need to buy one the government is giving coupons of $40 towards a converter and you can get up to two per household.
