just nip out to your local computer shop and ask for a wireless router for a cable modem then conect it to the modem then pc.

You haven't actually said whether he is connected to Broadband or not. By the look of your question I would say not because Virgin supply the modem. And yes you can connect a router to it but it is by an Ethernet connection ONLY to the modem NOT USB.
