Why would ebay care? Or even Craigs List?
I have a home that is not selling just like everyone else i had a great idea as follows below.
People would buy a sterling silver toe ring for a retail value of $5.00 and have the opportunity to buy my 5 bedroom 2.5 bath home in and around the san diego county area. Homes value is at $650,000 to 675,000 price range. I would need about 750,000 people to make the purchase of the toe rings and then one would be selected to buy the home at $1.00. (We disclose that we need 775k buyers)
I would tell them to send a money order or personal check to LannysDiscounters
P.O. Box 711131
Santee, CA. 92072-1131
And i would send them a sterling silver toe ring and a number to be selected by 3 independant judges. The funds after deducting the cost of the toe rings would be deducted and after attorney fee`s, Escrow fee`s, The independant judges, And paying us off the value of the home. Someone would be selected for the home for a $1.00. its being pulled off ebay and craigs
As per Law. The funds MUST be placed into an escrow.
As the ad says. If we do not get the amount of people to buy they are not out a thing they still get a $5.00 Sterling Silver toe ring. Most are asking for $25.00 to 4k. to send in some kind of writing and if your lucky to get picked then great. But if you not picked your out the $25.00 and have nothing to show for it. At least i`m offering something for there money. And will there be a profit? on the toe rings. Yes just enough for us to get our money from the home and to pay the attorney and the escrow etc.
I think it is a great idea. And folks are getting something for there money even if they don`t win.
By any means is it a lottery nor do i state that it is a lottery, If you would read that the home goes into an escrow along with the funds. First of all you are getting a the opportunity to buy the home for a dollar. There would be 3 independant judges that would monitor the event. The are way to many laws that would protect people in this event. If we do no get the 750,000 as required no funds would be returned unless the people want to return the toe rings at there cost....Unbelivable how if you buy an item you want your money back? You are purchasing an item with an opportunity to buy a home worth in the $675k. range. No lotery involved.
George thanks for the post i`m sure there are many out there that could use that information. But at 1500. that wont scratch the surface.

Mostly because it is against many state's gambling and lottery laws.
Most people don't want the toe rings, they want an 'entry' into your house lottery.
There is no independent party making sure that you actually sell the home or if you don't get your 775,000 people (which is a lot of people, by the way) that you return their lottery entry.
It is too fraught with potential for fraud and is illegal in many (if not all) states.
good luck!
EDIT: I see that you are still vehement that you should be allowed to do this. Maybe you should try and change your sales pitch. Tell people that you are selling them toe rings for $5. Don't even mention the house. If you sell enough toe rings, then you can randomly pick one of your customers and give them the house (or sell it for $1). If you think you can't sell enough toe rings without the house inducement, then people are really buying the chances to win the house and not toe rings. The toe rings are a proxy for a lottery. That's what ebay and craigslist get in a fuss about.

I agree with the last guy, but it is an original idea to raffle off a house. ......very interesting. People are tired of being scammed these days though so I doubt that many people would be interested.
By the way I just sold my home without a Realtor. It was on the market for 60 days, so I fired the Realtor, lowered the price and got an offer within 24 hours. In this market you have to be very patient or lower your price. If it's a great home and your not getting offers, it's because of the price. Good Luck =)

I'm sure that it's being reported as a scam. It would be too easy for you to "up and leave" at any time without any obligation to anyone in the contest. In addition, If I'm not mistaken, many states require that you fill out forms and get approved for any contests of this nature.
I doubt that Craigslist or Ebay want anything to do with any complaints that could arise over this. It could take you years to get that many people to send you money and what happens if you never raise the money? Are people out the $5 or are you going to send them back any profits made off the rings? I'm sure it's just something that looks scammy - it's creative but there's nobody ensuring that everything goes as promised.
Craigslist is user regulated and I'm not sure about Ebay?

It would be a violation, but also, it would be doubtful you would get response from 750K people. If it wasn't a violation and you were trying to make some sort of profit you would need to figure in the cost of advertising.
If you are trying to sell your home, I would just try it the old fashioned way.
Thanks
