Reported speech?

Hi!

I have a little problem with the reported speech.

I just don't know how I should put this sentence into the reported speech:

"Why don't we go to the cinema tomorrow?"

Thanks!

I have been teaching English for 25 years and my colleagues and I mostly agree that teaching 'reported speech' is a waste of time. In real life we hardly ever give a word for word report of what anyone said: we just give a summary The changes in tense time adverbs depend ENTIRELY on context, so it is hard to say what a reported version of your sentence would be. An all purpose one could be:

'I suggested going to the cinema the next day'

The suggestion was made that we might go to the cinema the following day.

he suggested - they suggested , I suggested ( don't know who but you decide

She suggested we went to the cinema the following day.

"She (or he or they) asked whether we should go to the cinema."

When the direct speech is a question with interrogative you have to transform the question into an indirect question, and use the interrogative or 'if' 'I' 'whether'.
