Impossible to do. By "updating" the story you would remove most of what we have today--Christianity would not exist for example. How much Judaism would have changed in the 2,000 yrs since would also be up in the air. Also, would civilization as we know it be the same? That's a big question in itself. So you can not expect to have someone rewrite the story of Jesus.

Jesus lived and died a practising Jew. He never stated that G-d's eternal covenant with the Jews should be replaced, nor set aside. The only faith he ever knew was Judaism.

So if Jesus somehow returned, he would be horrified at firstly what the Jews have gone through and secondly, the way they are maligned in the NT.

As far as "updating" the Bible? Not necessary. It is perfectly complete.
